The Human Torch joins The Super Friends

If indeed Namor is about to be introduced in one of Marvel's upcoming planned movies, other possibilities will soon open up as well.  A solo Sub-Mariner film could delve into the character past and include some of his WWII era allies and foes.  Even if Chris Evans is out of the picture which dampens my hope for a true Invaders team, there's no reason that the Jim Hammond Human Torch cant show up.  He and Namor have plenty of non-Invaders history in the comics and the MCU Torch was established in a cameo in the first Captain America.

I was hoping for the H-B Human Torch from the 1967 Saturday morning series. But, the Golden Age original is just as carton-looking I suppose. Nice photo-capture, in any case!

I always liked the Human Torch, whether it be Hammond or Storm. As a young boy, I thought of him pairing up with Iceman for the fire and ice duo that they could be. With Spiderman and his Amazing Friends the cartoons did that (sort of) with Firestar and Iceman. I think that Human Torch would have been a good fit here, but I understand why they might have been hesitant to include him. My understanding is that Herbie the Robot came into the later FF cartoon so that kids would not ry to set themselves on fire. (True or not, that is what I heard.)

I like this lineup of the Superfriends too. After I got familiar with all the cartoon versions up through Challenge of the Superfriends, I always thought that it would be cool to see the Wonder Twins with Wendy and Marvin together. Later on, I thought of the Wonder Twins with Superman or Batman and Robin with Space Ghost. I mainly wondered how they might interact with Jan and Jace and how Gleek and Blip would get along.

It might, at some point, be possible for Marvel Studios to talk Chris Evans into making a cameo return as Steve Rogers for an Invaders flashback scene. It would definitely be a "fan service" moment, but there's nothing wrong with that.

On the topic of the Super Friends, I remember wishing they could team up with the Spider-Friends. I even took a look through the tag list on this blog to see if it had happened, and couldn't find it.

Thanks, Ross. I felt sure that it had happened at some point. Now I just need to worry about why I didn't see it the other day....

I think H.E.R.B.I.E. replaced Johnny because of a rights issue, not fear of immolation.

Wow! The artistic match-up is incredible, and incredibly seamless! Excellent job!

Makes me wonder if he could do the same thing for Danny Phantom, Juniper Lee, and American Dragon vs. Yuyu Hakusho?

I can see it now. Soon after this, DC had both Jim and Bruce injured in a field of battle. Because of this, Bruce couldn't rescue Jim. Instead, Wonder Woman carried the Torch for Batman.

If the Sub-Mariner does come to the MCU I personally would be more interested in seeing the Defenders( the originals not the Netflix version) rather than the Invaders. It could end with the arrival of the Silver Surfer into the MCU

Zachary Quinto could probably play Namor. I'm sure there are a lot of female Trekkie-reboot fans who'd love to see him in green speedos!
