Superman Vs. Fin Fang Foom

DC Comics is planning a big event next month with DC FanDome, promising lots of announcements for future projects.  I am really hoping that we will be getting some more clarityas to what Henry Cavill's return to the role of Superman will entail. Will he truly only be used as a guest star in other movies or have they been holding back on us, waiting to announce an actual solo Superman movie?  I'm hoping for the latter.

This is fun. As a kid I just loved the whole idea of a Fortress of Solitude in the icy Arctic, somewhere I could invite my very best friends to (I wasn't too clear on the Solitude bit). And the Key was a wonderful prop. (An idea - Superman plus Key with Doctor Who plus sonic screwdriver - maybe size-reversed?)
Anyway, it looks as if Fin is in big trouble. Does Superman even realize he's there. That Key may be getting put somewhere painful.
I think it is just a misunderstanding. Fin's just come for a quick tour of the bottle city of Kandor...

So THIS is why Circe put a curse on McGriffin. As Fang, he's to go after Superman because of something Circe wants in the Fortress. Too bad Arthur couldn't help lift the curse and break the spell (STF #2991). (Not to be confused with FFF of STF #62.)
Thing is, Kal has had some training in magic since the old days, because of how often it's used on him. Since the Key is made of Dwarf Star material, it will probably keep Fang from moving much unless Fang can burn thru it while it's on top of him.
Clark could try to see if Diana is available to help break Circe's spell, but Diana may be away on her own mission. Who,then, could Clark get the needed help from?

Is there a Dr in the house? (Strange, Fate, Who, Manhattan or Occult may do.)

Dr Manhattan. Ross, how about a mini series of Dr Manhattan vs the likes of Darkseid, Thanos, and Dormammu? Hopefully there are some great images of each for this purpose.

If magic is the manipulation of matter and energy, having the manipulator of atoms and time could be an interesting contest. If he keeps a clear mind, who could defeat him? If he can absorb all energies just like sunlight, he might be more than an irritant to them.

Coincidentally, this morning one of my friends on Facebook posted a photo from 2016 of a glowing green meteorite falling in India, and I'm not the only one who had visions of Smallville. I also had thoughts of the Elseworlds tales in which Kal-El had been raised in Nazi Germany or Soviet Russia, and started picturing one where he grew up in India, perhaps during the late colonial era, becoming a disciple of Ghandi.

Perhaps some future cover can pair Supes with someone like Spiral, to discuss the idea further.

(The article from which he got the picture mentions Green Lantern, and while most are going with Hal Jordan or John Stewart/Diggle, its location makes me think Alan Scott.)

In Marvel Comics, was Fin Fang Foom a FIRE-BREATHING alien?

@Det. Tobor: I still think the curse was Triple F's inability to get off Earth.

@Anonymous: I know Grogg the Russian dragon certainly was.

@Ross: I love the visual! Makes me feel like paraphrasing the not-so-good Capt. Ahab.

"From Rao's Heart, I stab at thee!"

@Carycomic @ Anon1111: split the difference!

In the STFUniverse, Fin Fang Foom and certain other Makluans were captured by Juru (Kryptonian homo magi) space travelers and put under a mind-controlling spell in order to make them "tame lizards" (see ADVENTURE COMICS v. 1/#333).

The latter were then brought to prehistoric Earth by Vat-El and other anti-Rao cracy scientists. Escaping during a brief war with the proto-Atlanteans from the planet Vruun.

"That's my theory and I'm stickin' to it."

I like this daily variation of tones on the covers of the STF. Great plots or complexities are not always necessary to create a good story (and cover). Congratulations, Ross ... Today, it was simple but elegant.

I also like funny covers with characters or unusual encounters like 'Batman & Robin Get Smart' (#1073), 'Robocop and Futurama' (#1449) or even teams like 'Cat Prencit' (#836) or 'Ace and War of Dogs' (#415).

Ross, when you revisit this concept of a good-natured cover with a team of unusual characters, here's one more suggestion:

... Tawky Tawny, Hobbes, Tony the Tiger, Tigger (from Winnie-the-Pooh), and Cringer (He-Man)... maybe even against Shere Khan (The Jungle Book).

I see Triple F is still wearing his green-flesh-colored shorts. ;-)

On a shamelessly digressive note, Ross: how about Spider-Ham and Cerberus the Aardvark vs. The Joker? If only so we could see you use the title...

"Aardvark A Million Miles For One Of Your Smiles."

So Fin Fang has been flimflamed. cursed. Supes would build him a ship to go home if he told Supes. What kind of planet did Fin wander from? What's in the Fortress? (Actually what's not in the Fortress?)

Joining Superman & Lois is the new Batwoman.

In May, Ruby Rose left the CW’s Batwoman after just one seaso. But perhaps you have been wondering, these past few months, who will wear the bat-catsuit next? Wednesday, the CW announced Rose’s successor: Javicia Leslie, most recently one of the stars of the CBS series God Friended Me.
Leslie will take up the role of Ryan Wilder, who is, as previously reported, a new character, not based on Rose’s Kate Kane. Wilder will be a “likable, messy” 20-something who’s “a little goofy and untamed,” and “about to become Batwoman.” And Leslie will be the first Black actor to portray Batwoman in a live-action production.

Ross fire up your library, new data is coming in for future photo covers.

@Horsefeathers: the rest of the galaxy calls it Maklua 4 (I think). The Makluans, themselves, refer to it by one of those tongue-twisting names straight out of DOCTOR WHO.

Bob Greenwade said...

@HHH: I do hope that the Batwoman showrunner can convince Ruby to come back for the first episode or two to "pass the torch." It'd be jarring to have her just disappear, or to have Alice and Hush succeed in killing her on their first try.

I also hope that Kara comes around to Kate's funeral, if death is how they dispose of the character. An arguably better alternative, though, would be to have her go off in search of Bruce.

Give that man a spider line. BG, I cannot believe a new Batwoman could show up for any cross over and the other hero would not want to look for Kate FIRST. A person finds the costume somewhere and decides to use it? To train with it? Has no support team but goes out like Arrow did?(heh.) And this is with the new Earth having Supergirl and Superman as well?
And didn't Martian Manhunter put a signal device system in place for mutual contact of heroes? Guess being a Paragon isn't worth much these days.
Then again, if Hush passes himself off for Bruce as was intended, and no Alfred or Dick or Babs or Clark?? Some major flaws are gonna be a m.e.s.s.

thanks Cc.

The biggest flaw with CW's Arrowverse was the framed Flash digression during the Thinker story arc. That was the beginning of the end for the entire franchise!
