Justice League Dark and Spirits of Vengeance (and more!)

Justice League Dark is one of those DC properties that I keep hearing is being developed for the big screen, but nothing ever seems to come of the plans.  Perhaps if the upcoming Swamp Thing series on DC's streaming service is a hit, there will be renewed interest to finally get the wheels rolling.  DC has been working with directors with a background in horror for some of their other films, and this would be a perfect opportunity for them to do so again.  There have been a few different line ups of the team over the years, and I would hope that Deadman, Zatanna, Swamp Thing and The Demon would make the cut for a cinematic outing.  I love The Spectre as well, but he's maybe too powerful... so I say give him a solo movie of his own!

What's with the judgement on JUPITER?

Considering you work from scratch, i'd say take a week off to recover. I love the Enterprise & the Spectre especially. Tomorrow is yesterday indeed.
DC's animated branch seems to be kicking it, even having done J L Dark so decently.
You would think someone at W B, noticing how well Endgame has done, would rethink & analyse WHY DC hasn't come close in movies, apart from Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Maybe the people in charge of the animated movies should be given a chance to write and direct live movies. Working with computer programs should be easier for them.

JLD vs. Spirits O' Vengeance ? So! Can Deadman take over the Ghost Rider? Discuss .

I always enjoy these 100 page giants. 2600 eh? Could have been fun to have found a way to fit in Atari Force for this one.

Some inspired pairings! And some so insane they need to happen!

I'd buy a team-up of the Spectre and Archie's Mr. Justice!

Sometime around Halloween, how about Justice League Dark vs. the Legion of the Unliving (dead Avengers version)?

Cool anniversary cover, Ross! Given the Memorial Day holiday, I would've expected a lead of something like a prequel to the earlier meeting of Captain America and the Unknown Soldier, but this is almost as good, and sort of sneakily appropriate.

The current difficulty with doing a Justice League Dark movie would be character availability. DC has notoriously been reluctant to allow more than one live-action version of their characters to operate at once; currently Constantine is part of the Arrowverse, and Swamp Thing has his own show on DC Universe. They've lightened up a bit recently (with having multiple versions of Superman, Cyborg, the Flash, and now Batman), but I don't know if they'll want to go full-on with Constantine or (especially) Swampy. They'd need to cast different actors to underscore that these are different versions, and that could be confusing in relation to Swamp Thing; plus, Matt Ryan has become so associated with Constantine that any recasting would have fans up in arms (which they're prone to do in any event, but what the hey).

On another note, I've been trying for months to come up with a good match-up for Pinky and the Brain, and I think I've got it: Danger Mouse!

The Haunted Tank vs. the Enterprise? Somehow, that seems like a rather one-sided fight... :D

I am glad folks seem to like the Haunted Tank Vs. Enterprise back up tale. It's the only one that is a sequel story - to STF #2487, Capain Kirk and The Haunted Tank: https://braveandboldlost.blogspot.com/2019/02/captain-kirk-and-haunted-tank.html

Love the Blade Elvira team up.

You who else should team up with Elvira? Powergirl, (and watch the fanboys from around the worlds heads explode.)

Yeah DC little used pile has Tommy Tomorrow, space Cabbie, and Space Ranger. You do good work Ross

@Green Luthor: Unless, of course, it's a grudge match with Trelane (who might or might not be using a mind-controlled bunch of Excalbians).

In any event?

Happy Anniversary, Ross! Interesting array of stories you decided on. Did you choose the supernatural theme based on the fact that "26" is "13 x 2?"

P.S. @ Bob Greenwade: maybe Haunted Tank v. TOS Enterprise _is_ in honor of Memorial Day! A convoluted homage, yes. But, still homage just the same.

P.S. @ Ross: although, perhaps, something more straightforwardly military could be done for the 75th anniversary of D-day coming up this June 6th? ;-)

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: That could work for me, though the lead tale could turn out to be relevant as well. Maybe that corpse in the center is the Unknown Soldier, and Constantine's about to declare that he's only mostly dead.

PS: For some reason, looking at Deadman made me wonder how well he'd team up with Iron Man. And then I thought: what about Kid Eternity and Mar-Vell? The latter is, as far as I know and as of this writing, the only major character in the Big Two to die and stay dead.

Ross said...

Bob, that's Swamp Thing. Also, both Deadman/Iron Man and Kid Eternity/Captain Marvel are already on the blog...

I think The Haunted Tank has a good chance at victory you consider how often The Enterprise gets destroyed lately.

@Wolfhammer: It IS'NT like the USS Enterprise is FULL of "REDSHIRTS".

@Anon: I think the only 23rd century Starfleet vessel fitting that description is the U.S.S. Garibaldi.

OK, I (obviously) didn't remember about those two team-ups. And for some reason I hadn't noticed the title and connected it with the (otherwise) absence of Swampy.

PS: Still hoping for Captain America & Uncle Sam for July 4th....

Bob, Cap and Uncle Sam met in STF #1177, and twice more in a couple of Freedom Fighters/Inavders covers.
