The Hulks took multiple attempts to get right in live action. The same is true with The Punisher and Daredevil, and even the Fantastic Four will eventually get another shot. This makes it all the more frustrating that we haven't heard any news about a new Green Lantern or Green Lantern Corps movie for so long. I think plenty of time has passed since the Ryan Reynolds GL movie and general audiences would be willing to give another iteration of the ring slinger a chance. I suppose taking their time to get a quality production together is important though, after what happened with Hellboy, so DC's probably treading very carefully. Hopefully we will hear of some momentum on the project soon.

Agreed, but dc has to tell wb how to do the movie fx RIGHT first! Not just the fx, but also the characterization. GL could be novel, and do the movie right by having no buddy to interact with for a while and a slow growth for Hal. Then again, they might decide to change his origin like "marvel" did with the Ultimates Fantastic Four...or Diana. If we can redo WW's origin then we can do whatever we want. yeah.ðŸ˜
or just use a variation of Alan Scot?
hey Ross, this cover should have featured C'hip or G'nort as an offset for Rocket....
as usual another great cover...

A 'Green Lantern = Alan Scott' film... a 'Flash = Jay Garrick' film... a 'Hawkman = Carter Hall [& Shiera Saunders = Hawkgirl]' film... a Dr Fate film... all set back in the Golden Age... and then a JSA film!
(I can hope, can't I?)
The best concepts won't work if production sucks. GL showed promise but the makers got stupid. GL's costume didn't need CGI in it for one and his running from the bad guys was another major sticking point. I like a fan's take on the GL mythos; show Scott getting the ring for the first film, then Jordan getting his ring in the second with the third film introducing the GLC with a crossover with Scott giving his blessing. It's really too bad the original material always seems tobe held in contempt by the makers.
I liked the Dr. Seuss-like Secret Origin of G'nort decades ago.
Uh, unless those ray-guns shoot yellow beams, this looks more like a nuisance than a menace for Hal Jordan.
Groot might pose a problem to Alan Scott, though.
I actually liked the GL movie. The only drawback for me was the villain. Reynold's portrayal was spot-on.
I agree with Emsley. Groot, alone, would be more useful against Alan Scott's power ring. As to film versions of the Punisher? I still think the 1988 Dolph Lundgren version was the one most faithful to the comic book original!
This past season of Arrow gave us a couple of John Stewart teases, and with Crisis on Infinite Earths coming up, we may see David Ramsey "ring up" for the finale. That would be a good proving ground for how well the public would receive the Green Lanterns.
(Also for COIE, I'm still hoping to see John Wesley Shipp suit up as both Earth-3's Jay Garrick and Earth-90's Barry Allen -- maybe even in the same scene! And I'd love to see Mary Maxwell pop up as well; that would be all the more appropriate with Stan Lee's recent passing.)
But really, even as poorly received as Ryan's GL film was (like emsley, I actually rather liked it), I think it'd work to build a sequel around it, passing the ring on to either John Stewart, Guy Gardner, or Kyle Raynor (most likely John, given the current push for diversity).
And on the theme of green, howzabout a She-Hulk/Jade pairing? I know they were both part of the Emerald Elite way back in #597, but as a pair -- two green-skinned superheroines who are as capable as they are beautiful -- I think they'd make for a great "buddy-cop" sort of vibe.
Or, with a different color scheme, Shadow Lass and Nocturne.
I would only be interested in another GL movie if it was done more seriously, more of an action picture with little or no comic relief. Bring back the awe and wonder of having the "most powerful weapon" at your command (so there can still be awesome fight scenes and lots of blowing stuff up) and the sheer diversity and strangeness of 3600 GLs, even if the plot concentrates on just 5 or 6 of them.
I wouldn't even bother doing too much explaining of the GLC. They are the galactic 5-O or SWAT teams, period. Do a remake of "Assault on Precinct 13" or "Fort Apache the Bronx" or even the second S.W.A.T. movie.
I'm afraid Ryan Reynolds is now so intertwined with Deadpool that he will never be able to do a straight superhero part again. And there is currently a large group of strong black actors (thinking of the leads on "S.W.A.T", "Enemy Within", "NCIS LA") who can handle a leading man role as John Stewart, with his military background and mannerisms, that would be better for this type of film.
Laurence Fishburn or Denzel Washington might be suitable as John Stewart, too.
The latter, alone, could play him as a "Man on Green Fire."
Both Fishburn and Washington are getting up there in age. I would rather see someone from the current generation and not necessarily a "big name". Instead I would spend the money getting the effects right.
I'm with Jay on picking someone to play John Stewart. An African-American in his mid-30s or early 40s, with at least a little military experience (either real-world or onscreen), would be ideal. LL Cool J is currently 51, which puts him just over that age group.
(Laurence Fishburne has another strike against him: he's already had a notable role in the DCEU, as Perry White.)
In regards to the sequelized film I mention above, I'd minimize Hal's role in it (whether he's played by Ryan Reynolds or someone else). He should be dead or -- more likely, given the character's history in the comics -- sucked into another universe within the first 20 minutes at the longest. But yes, go big on the action sequences, use occasional quirky character humor rather than full-out comedy, give us a big battle with a John vs. Sinestro face-off at the end, and by all means (this being the RR GL film's biggest problem) keep the pacing and energy up. The Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Black Panther films are all good examples to look to for tone, pacing, and plotting.
The missing Infinity Stone?
@Jay Johnson: LL Cool Jay isn't exactly from this generation, either. But, I'd settle for Idris Elba as a compromise GL Stewart.
C'hip & Dale (Arden) from Flash Gordon?
Booster Gold & Silver Sable. "Setting the new standards"
Booster Gold & Buck Rogers "Running out of time"
Pepper Potts & Arthur (Aquaman) Curry "Letting Them Stew"
@del_Tobor: Maybe Booster Gold and the Jetsons (both the Hanna-Barbera Beyond version).
Anon et al: Yeah, LL Cool J was a reach, but I couldn't come up with any other lead role types. Still, if they decide to go current, with Simon or Jessica, I could see LL as the older, Corps Leader, John Stewart.
Elba would be more able.
