Firestorm in The Marvel Universe (Part One)

One cool thing about Marvel having so many of their heroes operating in New York City is the ease in which the characters can cross over with one another.  No need for the writers to come up with some reason for them to cross paths when they call the same city home and can just bump into each other on (or above) the street!  While there are some limitations to using an actual locale rather than several fictional cities like DC, this aspect is a definite plus.

Stay tuned for Part Two of this epic tomorrow... can you figure out how this predicament will be resolved?  The clue is on this cover!

Will it ne resolved by a doctor manhattan appearance?

What's that written just next to Firestorm's left foot?

Al Milgrom's signature

Nope, not Dr. Manhattan - this isn't STF: Rebirth :)

I'll take a wild guess. Does a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle come up through that manhole right in front of Ronnie Raymond?

And I admit that is a very wild guess.

If there's a Firestorm, somebody's gonna get Byrned.

I'll bet that new meaning is given to the second half of Firestorm's name. And, no! I'm not hinting at a certain X-woman (who's not even on the cover, btw).

I remember reading a short 'What If?' or 'What The!' story in which all of those heroes set up home in Toledo, Ohio, (or somewhere like that, anyway), instead: A bunch of them were shown hanging out together in a clubhouse, drinking coffee and playing darts and so on while they waited for anything interesting to happen, and one was reading a newspaper whose front-page headline was along the lines of 'Dr Doom Destroys Manhattan. "It Was Easy," He Says.'

I couldn't help but notice that there's some Thing missing here. (Yeah, Shulkie's appearance here does sort of date the F4 period this was taken from.) I doubt that that's a clue to tomorrow's resolution, but you never know.

Johnny Storm absorbs his fire/energy forcing them to split? Nah, too easy of a solution. Johnny would be using his power to absorb the fires in the buildings to put them out. I like the TMNT suggestion from Anonymous.

@Wildcard: Oh, it definitely would _not_ be easy! Hence, the help of all those extra superheroes. The latter no doubt called in by Reed Richards, who would ultimately scope out the solution in his head. But, who need Firestorm virtually immobilized by superior numbers.

First, you had me at hello! Wow, love this!! The recent Broderick piece with the classic Milgrom Secret Wars II cover is inspired!!

Second, I also thought Dr Manhattan was a good guess from the clues. TMNT is another good guess. I tried to think of someone from the text (Chamoions, psychic, etc), but no luck. So perhaps the Beyonder?

Can't wait for tomorrow!!

Oh wait... Could it be a drawn image of Al Milgrom to save the day?!? That would be awesome! He co-created Firestorm and was an editor at Marvel for a long time. And there is a comic drawn version of him out there somewhere! Ha!

That's not it - but there WILL be more Milgrom art tomorrow...

Scarlet Witch comes in, says "No more Firestorm", and it's over!

@Simreeve, that panel of the heroes in Toledo, Ohio was in What If's joke issue, #34, the first (and better) series. The one with the frightened Watcher on the cover surrounded by the Marvel characters.

The second series What If joke issue, also #34, had the Watcher on the cover mimicking Marilyn Monroe's dress blowing up from the subway shaft.

If memory serves, Iron Fist once almost succeeded in using the power of Shou Lao the Undying to drain off all the Norn magic from the Wrecker's crowbar. So, why couldn't he use it to split apart Ronnie Raymond and Martin Stein? Leaving the Human Torch free to absorb the excess energy.

I actually pondered the manhole, tho no idea who that might suggest.

I didn't expect it to be Manhattan, so let's leap to the inspiration; Captain Atom.

Well, there's a guess.

What about the other kid who merged with Martin Stein to become Firestorm, the one shown in the Legends of Tomorrow?

All I see in those Marvel heroes is the Secret Wars set, so that brings in my third guess: that horrible Beyonder.

I say it's going to be the tentacle of the diagnoga from STAR WARS EP. IV: ANH.

Cool cover as usual Ross. But I don't think you'd be so obvious as to use Dr. Manhattan, as for my guess.... I'll just say Psycho-Pirate, qu'est-ce que c'est!

With all the cars in the background, I will guess an appearance from the Autobots or Optimus Prime.
