Superman and Zot!

Zot! was a comic by Scott McCloud that was published from 1984 to 1990, just as comics were getting into the grim and gritty phase, so its bright visuals and upbeat attitude really stood out.  McCloud later went on to write and illustrate the great Understanding Comics and Reinventing Comics, must reads for any fan of the genre.

You had to know I would LOVE this on. Zot! is still one of my favorites!

Scott McCloud confessed, or was surprised himself (can't remember), that Zot actually looks like a young Captain Marvel, even to the squint and red-yellow colors. So Zot/CM is a logical crossover.

Don't be surprised if you see those two share a cover one of these days...

Everyone who enjoys comics should read Understanding Comics. Everyone who suffers from insomnia should read Reinventing Comics. But McCloud's third book in the series, Making Comics, is almost as good as the first.

In addition to creating Zot, McCloud wrote Superman for a good long string of issues of Superman Adventures, the comic title inspired by the animated TV series.
