Batman and The Phantom (Part Two)

Heres the second part of the Phantom trilogy

I quite like the 1996 Billy Zane Phantom move directed by Simon Wincer. It has its hokey moments but also some very well done swashbuckling action sequences and solid performances (OK, Treat Williams hams it up a bit too much). For years after I first saw it, I was convinced that Zane would make the perfect Bruce Wayne. I even thought they were able to make the costume work. It's too bad it wasn't a bigger hit and did not spawn any sequels. I think one reason for low attendance may have been the unfortunate "Slam Evil!" ad campaign which made the movie look cheesier than it was.

Just love the all-Aparo vibe!

that movie was great....I really don't believe that comic book based movies can be hokey....it's comic action...hokey-ness is a part of the story.

Beautiful work. Would love to pen this story.

I think that most comic book based movies that flop only do so because the non-comic book buyers haven't heard of the character. Everyone knows Batman, Superman, Spider-man, X-Men, Captain America and Green Lantern because of their cartoon series appearances. But most people since the 1940's haven't heard of the Phantom or the Shadow unless you buy comic books.

Rick -
I'll give you that The Phantom is a pretty obscure character, but it's run - or ran in newspapers for quite some time, kinda like Buck Rogers used to. The Phantom is at best a C-list character. I think Black Panther, when I hear The Phantom. His origin ran pretty frequently between storylines. I think the success or failure ration is based on the script, director and cast. Unfortunatley, if an obscure character gets an obscure director - not named Nolan, Donner, Raimi, Del Toro or Jackson...Maybe one day the character will get dusted off for better treatment...
