The (All New) X-Men Vs. Darkseid

Regular Lost Issues visitors will know that Darkseid is referring here to the events of STF #2485... I thought it would be interesting to have a sequel with the next iteration of the X-Men.  It always seems to me that Darkseid goes very well against the heroes of Marvel.  I guess it's because he was created by Jack Kirby, he really seems at home in the 616 universe.

The Metal Men and Magneto

Every once in a while we will see a new updated version of the Metal Men, with their appearances redesigned to look more modern or "bad ass".  Usually that means more bulky looks, with sharper edges and extraneous parts.  Those changes never seem to last and they return to their classic streamlined designs.  Sometimes the original look is the best, and this is one of those cases.

Swamp Thing and Kolchak: The Night Stalker

It's interesting - first it was announced that the Stargirl series from DC's streaming service will also be aired on the CW network.  Now we hear that the first Season of Harley Quinn is going to air on the SYFY channel.  I'm hoping that the abruptly cancelled Swamp Thing show finds a second home as well, I heard good thing about it and would like to check it out some time.

Bugs Bunny vs. Kraven the Hunter

There has been a lot of talk about Kraven possibly being a villain in the next Spider-Man movie, and his live action debut is long overdue.  Who best to play him, though?  I used to think Jeffrey Dean Morgan, but he seems to be looking a little older and thinner these days.  Gerard Butler could be an interesting choice, he still seems to be in decent shape.

Doctor Who and Superman

Not only is Tom Baker my favorite actor in the role of Doctor Who, he also has a prominent role in my favorite Ray Harryhausen movie (which is saying a lot because I love them all).  He appears as the evil magician Koura in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad.  I was amazed by this movie the first time that I watched it as a kid, and the stop motion special effects in it still impress me to this day.

Captain Marvel Jr. and Bucky

I am looking forward to Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney+, but the title begs one big question.  Why would Bucky Barnes want to continue going by the Winter Soldier code name?  Wasn't that given to him by the people who manipulated him into being a mindless mercenary for years?  I'd think he would never want to be called that again.  We'll see if that point is addressed in the new show.

The Spectre and Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. has completed his run as Iron Man, and his hopes for another franchise in Dolittle were dashed by a very poorly received first outing as that character.  Hopefully that means he will once again step into the role of Sherlock Holmes for the long rumored third film in that series.  I'd prefer that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman return to Netflix' Sherlock, but I'll take what I can get.

Storm and the Birds of Prey

After the critical and financial failure or Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey, I am glad to see that Harley at least will be getting another chance with James Gunn's The Suicide Squad (which looks to skew more closely to her animated roots, a good thing).  But how long before Huntress and Black Canary get another chance at the big screen?  People responded positively to Mary Elizabeth Winstead's portrayal of Huntress, but the role was very small, so maybe she is still relatively unscathed.  Jurnee Smollett's Black Canary was not very close to the character from the comics (she faints after her one and only use of the canary cry?) There is the new Green Arrow and the Canaries CW series in the planning stages, maybe we'll see a more faithful version of the Blond Bombshell if that comes to pass.

Doctor Fate and Gargoyle

Doctor Fate is another big role to be filled for the upcoming Black Adam movie.  An actor with a distinctive voice is a must, since most of his performance will come from behind a helmet.  With that in mind, we need an actor that will be OK with his face being obscured for the majority of the film - Doctor Fate's power comes through his connection with the Helmet of Nabu, and he is not known for taking it off in the middle of battle the way too many big screen heroes seem to do.

Barbarella & the Space-Time Five

I thought it might be cool to see a team of swashbuckling cosmic adventurers, since that is a concept that goes back even farther than the superhero.  Most of these guys are used to being in charge and making their own rules, so it might be an adjustment for them to join forces - but I'm betting that team leader Barbarella would keep them all in line.

The Demon and Brother Voodoo in: "Resurrection... or Deception?"

After years of false starts, it looks like we are finally going to get a live action Justice League Dark, now to be a JJ Abrams-produced series on HBO Max.  I was happy to hear that The Demon is expected to be one of the team members.  It will be very interested to see how he is handled.  Will the same actor portray both Jason Blood and Etrigan?  Will he keep his colorful look from the comics?  And, most of all, will he speak in rhyme?

Iron Man and Hawkman in: "Exhibition of Evil!"

I love looking at Golden Age covers featuring Hawkman.  Sheldon Moldoff and others really went to town when depicting his wings - they were huge, almost out of control and very impressive looking!  Let's hope the next live action Hawkman can do them justice.

Jack of Hearts and The Ray

The Ray is another one of DC's great legacy characters.  I remember his introductory mini-series coming seemingly from nowhere and really impressing me.  Joe Queseda designed two very cool looks for him, both while powered up and powered down.  I always expected bigger things for him, but for some reason he's remained on the C List of superheroes.  I think he was last seen hanging with the new Freedom Fighters, which is a fitting home considering the first Ray belonged to the original group.

Captain America and Wonder Woman in: "Day of the Duplicates!"

While Batman was fighting disfigured gangsters and Spider-Man had his hands full with animal-related adversaries, The Flash built up an impressive roster of science-based villains.  The mirror master was one of my favorites.  I liked how he would use his amazing mirror technology in a different way for each appearance.

Ms. Marvel and Supergirl (Vs. Lex Luthor!)

If you had told me that Jon Cryer - the actor who played Lenny Luthor in Superman IV: The Quest for Peace would decades later play Lex himself (more convincingly than the latest big screen version), I would never had believed it.  That is what has come to pass, though!

Bullseye Vs. Captain Boomerang

I was glad to hear that Captain Boomerang made the cut as one of the few characters from David Ayers' Suicide Squad that will also appear in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.  I enjoyed Jai Courtney's performance as the Flash villain that we love to hate, but he really wasn't given much to do in the first movie.  I am sure that Gunn decided to keep him around for a  reason, and I look forward to seeing what he has in store for the character.

Indiana Jones and Metamorpho

It always seemed to me that Rex Mason was sort of an Indiana Jones-type adventurer before his exposure to the Orb of Ra, so I figured it was only natural that they may know each other in a professional capacity at least.  Like most film projects, production has been pushed back on the next Indiana Jones movie, but it is still a go.  It's going to be interesting to see another director's take on Indy, and how he handles a hero nearing 80 years old.

Green Arrow and The Falcon in: "Stung by the Scorpion, Held Hostage by Hyde!"

Looking back, it seems odd to me that for his first several appearances, The Falcon did not even have his iconic wings yet!  How do you create a superhero named The Falcon, and not give him the ability to fly?  Fortunately, that oversight was remedied before too long, completing one of the coolest looking Bronze Age hero costumes.

Thor and Blue Devil

I liked the viral clip going around this week that recorded the opening night's audience reaction to Captain America wielding Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame.  Not only did it remind me of how much I enjoyed that pivotal scene when I first saw it, but it perfectly illustrated how fun the communal movie going experience is.  Let's hope things get back to normal soon and we can all enjoy a night at the local theater again.

Giant-Man Vs. Booster Gold

Hank Pym has had a lot of different looks over the years as Giant Man, Ant-Man and Yellowjacket. I liked the visor that he sported as Yellowjacket and in the costume he is wearing on the cover above.  They had a high tech feel to them and gave him a slightly more menacing presence.  I imagine they had some heads-up display abilities in them, similar to Iron Man's helmet.
