The Thing and the Guardian in: "The Boys Are Back In Town!"

I liked when The Guardian was a regular cast member in the Superman titles.  Having him work as security for The Cadmus Project provided plenty of opportunities for him to shine even in The Man of Steel's shadow.  I also like that he was a clone of the original Golden Age Guardian, and I would have like to have seen that aspect of the character explored further.

The connection on this cover was first hinted at when The Thing first met The Guardian in a MTIO: The Lost Issues! cover back in 2011...

Ah, good old Yancy Streeters. The best of the best. Now if Guardian could join the Squadron Supreme, it would make for the perfect bridge.
By the way, S.S. has been around since 1971, about 11 years less than the original JLA? Wow! Look at all the titles that have been left behind since then.

Loved the atmosphere here Ross.

Not just another great cover (2 actually - thanks for the link). But also a neat story thread. King Kirby would have been proud.

Nice, seamless cover, Ross. Well done!

The 2011 cover-sim seems to imply another misguided attempt by Ben to change history using Reed's version of the time platform. This sequel would seem to imply that the clones of the original Newsboy Legion have gone rogue by joining the modern-day (and much more felonious) Yancy Street Gang.

If so, the Guardian clone might not have any choice about protecting them. Not if his genetic engineering includes a neurochemically implanted hypnotic directive to that effect!

As for why the NL clones might have become Yancy Streeters? I'd say it's part of some elaborate Intergang plot. Maybe even a faction led by one of those Kraalian-born Skrulls!

What ARE Kraalian Skrulls\; I only googled 2 entries!

Skrulls from the colony world of Kraal whose culture is patterned after Prohibtion-era crime syndicates. And who initially used abducted aliens from other planets (including Ben Grimm of Earth-616) as combatants in gladiatorial games.

I shoulda known that chrome-dome GUardian was a crumb-bum Yancy Streeter!

@Alec: Probably the white sheep of his old neighborhood. ;-D

Oh, dear. What if Kraal were to go to war against Sigma Iota II (Star Trek TOS: "A Piece of the Action")?

The Iotians would probably "Kraal" of in demeaning defeat.
