Just yesterday I was reading rumors of a new52 Infinity Inc. comic being considered so perhaps she will make a return as a part of that.
I never understood her emblem being changed from a star (with an only slightly-inappropriate boob window) into an asterisk. Oh well.
John Campbell's "Who Goes There?" (better known by its adaptations in "The Thing" movies by Hughes and Carpenter) has been adapted into comics by Dark Horse and an anthology series by Whitman Comics' Starstream anthology. The image of a human(oid) figure trapped in a block of ice leads me to think a variation of events in Avengers #4 is possible.
I miss the Old52. Jade was my favorite Green Lantern, and I'd love to see her in these pages wearing that costume some time (maybe opposite She-Hulk when she was part of the F4 -- now there's a bit of interesting commonality for you).
Jade & She Hulk have appeared together as members of The Emerald Elite.
I suppose making one of the pantheon of true legends of comic book heroes gay was supposed to give the move more power or something, but ultimately you're right, Ross: it became a quickly forgotten headline. In the past thirty years or so, comic books in general have moved from epic stories about the timeless to banal stories about the topical. Let us hope this trend is reversed at some point.
Even if they had made this version of Alan Scott straight, there still would have been no Jade or Obsidian. Alan Scott is now a younger man and Jennie Lynn and Todd would have been at most ten. Dislike attempts at making heroes more than straight white guys all you want but this attempt at diversity did not result in two minor characters being unable to exist...
Yeah, I remember the Emerald Elite. My thoughts were in a somewhat different vibe here, as two green ladies who have taken on team uniforms in mid-career.
Sorry -- I'm just wanting to see Jade again in her GL uniform. :)
Flip, diversity is cool, but taking and existing character and changing it's race, gender, or sexuality is insulting to both the group portrayed and the reader.
Ed, this Alan Scott wasn't an existing character. Like with Wally West and the rest of the JSA they have only used their names. Even if Scott had been straight in the E2 comic, he would never be the character we loved for decades!
They might yet turn up, with their original back story, in the DC series INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US (YEAR TWO). Loosely based on the video game of the same name.
Flip, that is a really good point and I agree 100%. In fact, all the new 52 characters are pretty much different people. DC should realize that it can't be Marvel, and just celebrate it's legacy instead of trying to kill it.
Ed, I agree with you one thousand percent. DC is where I used to go for the larger than life heroes with little feet of clay and iconic battles. Now it seems one step up from torture porn some months. I used to be 55-45 in my buying split. Today I bought ten Marvel and two DC, and once I had to be talked into!
