The Fantastic Four and The Herculoids

I was a Huge fan of Hanna-Barberra's World of Super Adventure as a young tyke. There were some crossovers between the various features that appeared on that show, But the Fantastic Four never got to be included in that fun.  I would have loved to see an episode where Marvel's first family mixed it up with Herculoids.  Kirby designs and Toth designs together - it would have been a feast for the eyes!.

The Hanna Barbera TV Heroes were some of my first comics!

These are some cherished memories of weekly afternoons (before getting started on homework) after school in NYC, '81-'82. This was on Channel 5 around 4:00pm. By 6pm, Little House on the Prairie would come on, and I had better be done with my homework before my parents came back from work!

I, too, loved watching the Herculoids when I was a kid. I always thought Tundro was especially cool because he shot energy balls from his horn.

In fact, I was just thinking yesterday that it was about time for the Herculoids to show up, though my idea for an interesting partner was Animal Man. How his powers would interact with those of the non-human Herculoids would be an interesting experiment.

When HB did a Fantastic Four series in the 1960s, Alex Toth did all the character designs, simplifying Kirby's characters for animation so at one point there were designs that were part Kirby and part Toth.

I never got to see the original Fantastic Four cartoon. My first exposure to Marvel was through the Marvel Super Heroes cartoons with Namor, The Hulk, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America. Was the FF in the Namor cartoons?

I hate to admit that I have never seen a Herculoids cartoon.

@AirDave - I can't believe you didn't see the FF when they came on. It was the same year as the Marvel Superheroes, just on another network. Back in the 60's. And the FF never showed up in Namor's cartoons, but Namor showed up in the FF's cartoon (sort of).

This idea is INSPIRED! I Love the FF (of course) and have also always loved the Herculoids! The concept, at least— a family with the coolest pets in the entire galaxy! I watched the Hercs when I was a kid, but don't remember a single episode. I even own the original model sheet for Gloop and Gleep! (Toth at his most minimal!) But that Coolest Pets thing-- I've got something in mind that takes that idea and runs with it. Someday...

Keep up the cool, great stuff you're doing!

Another great cover, Ross. I admire your tireless energy and novelty in bringing these covers together. If you could find an image, The FF and the First Family from Astro City would also be a hoot.

It's a Phil Noto piece I found on a Google search - probably a commission he did for someone.

I loved watching Super Adventures when I was little. Why are there so few great animation blocks nowadays?
