Battlestar Galactica and The Silver Surfer

The Silver Surfer is set to star in another comic series beginning soon.  That in and of itself is no big deal, Marvel cancels and relaunches its line of titles with alarming regularity these days.  Sill, the creative team of Dan Slott and Mike Allred has me intrigued. I've enjoyed Slott's work on Spider-man and The Thing, and Allred is one of the most creative artists working today, perfect for an outer space setting.  This is one series that I m going to have to check out.

I remember being hooked on Marvel's Battlestar Galactica tie-in comic! Marvel was sci-fi in the '70's. Star Wars and Galactica. Then around '79 or '80 they got Star Trek! That was the hat trick. I'm still baffled by how they managed to lose the license between ST: The Motion Picture and Search For Spock - to DC! neither one published a Wrath of Khan adaptation I don't think. I liked the '70's Galactica. I could never get into the updated version. Maybe if I gave it another try.

This may be the Surfer series to stick. Don't know about Allred's ability to do space stuff. His work always struck me as strictly earthbound.

Unfortunately I don't think we're going to see Silver Surfer meet Red Rocket 7. One upside is that Slott (who once scripted the comic based on the retro "Ren and Stimpy" cartoons) and Allred (who did a fantastic "Untold Tales of Spiderman" annual set in the mid 1960's) might get away with doing a Lee/Kirby style take on the Silver Surfer.

It looks like Marvel is cancelling the latest relaunch in order to concentrate on their "Dr. Doom, God of Battleworld" story arc.

Where's Galactus when you really need him?
