The Outsiders Vs. The Sub-Mariner

I love the original line-up for The Outsiders, and the farther subsequent Outsiders series have strayed from it the less well I thought the team worked.  I'd love to see them show up in the new DCU, because for now it seems like there is no home for characters like Black Lightning, Geo-Force, Halo and Metamorpho.  Katana is around in a birds of prey title, but almost unrecognizable from the character I knew from her Outsiders days.  It looks like yet another iteration will show up in the new Beware the Batman CGI series that is set to begin soon.

Namor is always a fun character to team folks with because he always clearly has his own agenda.  You never know whether he's going to be with you or against you until it's too late to do anything about it.  He'll strut in with his speedo, kick your butt and take your woman too, if you aren't careful.  Namor don't care! He's the honey badger of comic characters!

Dave sez,

Great cover!

Namor is awesome! So are The Outsiders!

As a Batman fan, I thought it was a stretch that The Outsiders lasted after he returned to the Justice League. It was originally, Batman and The Outsiders - and it was a book that replaced The Brave and the Bold.

Don't get me wrong - The Outsiders were a cool team. But to relaunch the team with Nightwing and Speedy as a second generation iteration was kind of pointless.

As a fan, unless it's the original line-up, and led or directed by The Batman, I see no point to a new Outsiders. I would think The Outsiders should be what Justice League Dark or Justice League International is. A covert team that acts behind the scenes when the main seven are out in front.

I see Green Arrow, Black Lightning, Metamorpho, Plastic Man and Elongated Man on a team like that...

Batman and the Outsiders was my favorite comic book series of the '80s and '90s, above the New Teen Titans and All Star Squadron. When I finally stopped collecting them (Mike W. Barr seemed to have lost his mind in the end, ie: turning Looker into a vapire, Atomic Knight joining (wtf?), Eradicator?!?) was when I gave up on comics altogether!

This is the first cover I had seen for this blog. I can't believe it has been 7 years.
