Captain Carrot and Flaming Carrot

I have to admit I have only a passing knowledge of Flaming Carrot, but I always got a kick out of his design, and what little I have read was genuinely funny.  Captain Carrot and His Amazing  Zoo Crew was an interesting attempt by DC to tap into the cartoon animal market.  They were smart to tie the characters to the main DCU through the concept of the multiverse, and it has been nice to see them return briefly here and there.  The new DCU seems to have steered away from fun characters so who knows when they will pop up again.  I think the Saturday morning animated DCU shorts that have been airing recently would be a cool place for them to appear.

Dave sez,

That is too cool!
I've seen Flaming Carrot, but never read any of the books...Captain Carrot is hilarious from what little I have read - this makes me want to track down some Captain Carrot!

Yippee!! Some recognition of the small/independant publisher contributions that made the 1990s bearable for serious comic readers seeking quality (cuz frankly, Marvel & DC were going down the tubes at this point!) We gotta Represent!

The last thing I recall the Flaming Carrot's creator working on was a short lived "Gumby" series with Rick Geary. He had previously done Gumby stories with Art Adams in the 1980's, which must have become harder to schedule as they both gained larger audiences and more demands on their time. Most of his back catalogue was compiled into trades by Dark Horse over the last fifteen years, except for the new material from the last decade which was done for Image/Desperado. It's pretty non-linear, so it doesn't matter where you start.

I attended graduate school in Manhattan/NYC, surrounded by comic specialty shops. My friends and I stopped collecting comics by the late '90s/early 00's not because we outgrew them, but because the vast output of DC/MARVEL became trash. The occasional purchase of an independent titles like Love & Rockets became the norm.

This is one of my favorite blogs and CC was (and still is) one of my favorite DC characters. I still have all 20 issues plus the one shot: the Oz-Wonderland War. Would love to have seen Captain Carrot show up on the animated Brave and the Bold as it was almost a no-brainer. Can you have imagined the fun Bat-Mite would have had with the Zoo Crew?

Yeah, I was surprised they never showed up.

Love Flaming Carrot.
How about The Mystery Men visit the House of Mystery?

I'm actually lucky enough to have the very first appearance of the Flaming Carrot (he always reminded me of Zippy the Pinhead for some reason) AND all the Captain Carrot comics. That was some wild and imaginative stuff back then.

Captain Carrot and Flaming Carrot...add Erma Felna in there and you have my education in non-M/DC comics in a nutshell. Great, funny image. Thank you.

Captain Carrot! YAH!

Totally agree on the idea of Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew as part of DC Nation, or even longer full-length episodes. I've always thought there was a huge market for this if DC wanted to tap into it by giving us a mix of Justice League and Tiny Toons. I know I'd watch.
