The Thing and Smallville

Smallville has had it's ups and downs, but when looked at as a kind of alternate version of the Superman saga I find it pretty entertaining. It really is amazing how many characters from the DCU have been woven into the story. I must say that I am glad that it will finally be coming to a close at the end of this season, because it really is time for Clark to make the final leap into being the superhero we all know and have been waiting for. The best news is that Michael Rosenbaum as Luthor will be returning for the final episode. He was my favorite actor on the show and was sorely missed once he left. I am also looking forward to the episode featuring Booster Gold and Blue Beetle (written by Geoff Johns) and a big throwdown with Darkseid before the end of the season. It sounds like things will be going out with a bang... I hope it lives up to the long build up!

Dave sez,

That is one AWESOME cover!

I'm one of the believers that thinks Smallville jumped the shark when Clark graduated high school and did...(wait for it) NOTHING! He went to college, and then dropped out! This was like a Kingdom Come teenage Clark - he just hid from the world on the farm.

I would have loved it if, in Season One, The Phantom Stranger had begun annual visits to Smallville. He wouldn't have to have visited Clark, he could have visited Jonathan, then say Martha, Pete, then Chloe. One person per season until Clark in the final season before Brainiac set Clark straight.

Looking back at the whole series, there is no single theme - like the caves. That angle just seemed to stop abruptly.

Pete leaving the series was a mistake.

The Smallville comic being quarterly was a missed opportunity, it should have been monthly.

The show really seems to have found it's footing again, by putting Dawson's Cr- I mean Smallville back into the DCU.

It should be interesting to see Zach Snyder's Superman reboot. Costner and Lane as Jonathan and Martha? Okay!
