Comedy vs cold life drama. DC will judge how to go long term after the box office review. After Endgame, DC is probably trying to figure out how it worked so well and what they can do to duplicate it (as much as possible).
The Skrull shouldn't stand any chance against an invulnerable Capt Marvel. (As long as he doesn't become Billy.)
If Super-Skrull can shrink to Atom's size, Cappy ain't gonna be able to prevent an Atomic attack. Maybe not as invincible as he used to be thought as. He even got infected by the Batman who laughs.
I think DC did figure out what went wrong with Justice League that went right with the Avengers: they went too fast. Marvel started slowly, with each sub-franchise standing on its own while keeping ties to the others. That's what DC's film division is doing now. Black Adam is closely-related enough that the crossover with Shazam! is pretty inevitable, but there a second movie is reportedly planned for the latter, so a showdown may be in the works.
And don't worry too much about Asher Angel growing up. I expect the movie people will roll with that. It's something that's never been dealt with in the comics (other than Kingdom Come), but I for one would welcome it. In fact, if the Shazam Family had come to the Arrowverse instead of the big screen, I'd be encouraging it! (The movie did touch on the matter a little, in Mary's personal arc.)
@Horsefeathers: Super-Skrull specifically has the powers of the Fantastic Four. That does not include shrinking.
Am I the only one who recognizes the significant irony of having Super Skrull battle the original Capt. Marvel?

@B.G., I knew that part, but were all other skrull abilities of shape shifting erased at the same time? If not, he could change to a fly or smaller and do damage inside Cap's skull with Ben's strength.

Nice one Ross. I'd be happy to see Billy Batson grow up like a normal human being. I've never understood why they never did that in the comics.
I would not hold my breath for the next Shazam movie. It took forever for DC and whoever to finally get around to making a sequel to Suicide Squad.
To Davejonz - they did have Billy Batson grow up in the Kingdom Come mini-series. Also there was an elseworlds Superman comic where all super powers were gone and most of civilization was destroyed. Billy Batson was one of the survivors and was seeking a relationship with Wonder Woman until Superman came along. They Billy became the bad guy. (Not a great story).

@Davejonz: when DC first revived the comic, circa 1972, the backstory was that the Shazam Family was captured by the Sivanas and put in an orbiting bubble of suspendium (along with themselves due to over-gloating). 20 years later, the bubble's orbit decayed and everybody came back to Earth no older than when they left. Which is why Billy ultimately requested of Shazam's ghost for an age-acceleration to, at least, seventeen or eighteen!
Thanks for the Batson info guys. Really interesting. There's just so much comic mythology to catch up on (for example why does he have to be Shazam instead of Captain Marvel?!!) Clark Kent makes Superman more interesting. An adult Billy might do the same for Captain M

Good point about Super-Skrull, though.
@Dave: He's now Shazam instead of Captain Marvel because, during that interim between when Fawcett folded and when DC bought up their IP, Marvel created their own Captain Marvel character (Mar-Vell) and put a Trademark on the name. Then, when DC started using the old Captain Marvel character, they couldn't use that name as the title of the book; so, they called it "Shazam!" with the byline, "featuring the ORIGINAL Captain Marvel!" Marvel then kept after DC about the matter until DC finally caved and gave up on the name.
DC's reason for not going with Captain Thunder (which was the original "working name" for The Original Captain Marvel, and which remains wide open for use) is still a mystery, at least to me.

And Ross,isn't it time for a rematch tween Super-Skrull & Martian Manhunter? A full adventure could take place before we learn it's all happened inside Skrull's mind.

P.S. Is anyone familiar with the Golden Age hero, Atoman? Could that costume and cover be the inspiration for Firestorm?

@Horsefeathers and Bob: I think Skrulls can only metamorph into something of roughly similar size and mass. However, if this "Super Skrull" was actually one of the Limbo Space Phantoms...

DC had actually used that name for a one-shot character (a visitor from another Earth, who had a team-up with Earth-1's Superman but then went back to his own world) who was basically equivalent to Captain Marvel but gained his powers from a slightly different source, very shortly before they started to use CM...
I strongly suspect Capt. Thunder was just DC testing the waters for their pre-Bicentennial revival of "Capt. Shazam."
