Black Panther Vs. Black Manta

Black Manta was easily the coolest looking (and sounding) villain on the Super Friends cartoon, so I was very glad that he would be a part of the Aquaman movie.  Even though his role was not as big as I had hoped, the depiction of the character did not disappoint.  I love that they did not feel the need to tone down his oversized mask and that they kept his motivations against Aquaman intact.  It  will be cool to see what he gets up to in the sequel.

Thank you to Tom Zilla, a Patron of this Blog, for suggesting this match up!

I see someone that would be great going against MARS ATTACKS. They suit a ray on his ass and he is running away with his ass smoking.

For me, the coolest voice for Black Manta remains Ted Knight's, when he was a contract actor for Filmation during the Sixties.

Oops! Almost forgot; it strikes me that today's cover would make a perfect part two to yesterday's cover. I mean, consider the givens. Daredevil was quite often a Black Panther ally in Marvel Comics of the 1970's; Yesterday's cover depicted Hornhead and Wildcat in a maritime version of "Con Air." And Black Manta's specialty is high-tech piracy on the high seas.

Conclusion: Black Manta (probably in cooperation with the Maggia) engineered that mutiny/hijacking as an elaborate diversion from his real target. The theft of an experimental device meant to nullify the inherent properties of Wakandan vibranium! After all; Reed Richards, himself, once pointed out that ICBM guidance systems made of that stuff would be impervious to gyroscopic malfunctions caused by UHF vibrations.

Find a way around that, and Wakanda would become a little more vulnerable to getting nuked.

If nothing else, Wildcat and the Black Panther are way overdue for a reunion team-up. Not having appeared together since STF #177!

Maybe Black Manta and Darth Vader could have a fight over whose helmet is better lol

Did anyone who watched The "Flintstones"' "The Hot Piano" on MeTV today notice that the mailman that opened the mailbox after Barney yelled in pain twice had a face that looked a lot like Andy Capp's?

Ross, a new possible group: The Royals. Black Panther, Aquaman, Wonder Woman.

I'm just glad that the producers of Aquaman decided to forego the BS about "an experimental serum cured Black Manta's autism."

I agree about the suit, though. That's one outfit that could have looked really stupid in live-action, but was made to look cool.

@Bob and Cary: What would have looked even more stupid in live-action is those humanoid manta-men with the goatees. Also from Filmation!

BM in that helmet, getting zapped by the ack-acks? Right out of a scene from MAD.

###Spoiler ???

Oh and as a guess on Crisis, Lex helps to save the day by lying and or bluffing. That's probably why the Monitor brought him back to life and let him kill the Supermen. That and to help checkmate Anti.

To paraphrase an old expression: "Every Monitor has his Merrimack."

@BigMike: Rick Moranis would win first prize. ;-)
