Power Pack and Power Rangers

Happy Thanksgiving!

I was a little too old to get into them, but I do remember being surprised at the popularity of The Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers when they first hit the scene.  I recently watched an episode about the property on Netflix' awesome series The Toys That Made Us, and it shed a lot of light on how they were developed.  Why Marvel never tried to market Power Pack with toys or a cartoon show I do not know.

Happy Thanksgiving! Perfect match up!

There was a live action Power Pack pilot made in 1991: https://youtu.be/ME8xvz2iHKQ

The only proper way to do Power Pack would be as an animated movie or series since the kids would quickly get too old for the parts.

Ah yes, I remember hearing about that but didn't realize they actually made the pilot. Thank you for all of the great stories you have brought us over the years!

Personally, I liked VR TROOPERS better. But, the Power Rangers multi-media success can't be argued with. They even got to co-star in a comic book crossover with the Justice League!*

*Thereby "Saban" two worlds for the price of one.

Happy putting on the Bird! Another famous scribe has given feedback. You definitely deserve it Ross.

The kids could visit the J.L.A. for a different kind of team up..

@Carycpmic: I don't think you're saying "Saban" right.

I've seen several episodes of the various Power Rangers shows, mostly because my wife and best friend enjoyed them, and they were a bit of fun, if not quite my speed for things. On the other hand, I watched the 2017 Saban's Power Rangers reboot movie, and I completely loved it (mostly, but not entirely, because of RJ Cyler's portrayal of Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger).

Power Pack, on the other hand, is something that never really caught on with me. If Marvel Studios were to try a Disney+ show with them, though, I'd probably be interested. And I don't care if the kids grow up; I'd be quite keen on seeing how they develop into teens.

PS: What do you get when a boy and his tiger cross paths with the Hellfire Club's Black King? Calvin & Hobbes & Shaw.

I remember watching MMPR back in high school. Wasn't really into the show but it was something to watch after school. I do recall identifying more with Bulk and Skull than any of the Rangers lol.
I think I've suggested it before but a Power Pack/Powerpuff Girls team up could be fun, a major case of Sibling Rivalry.

"Billy Cranston, the Blue Ranger"

Has he ever met Billy Batson?

B.G., now that deserved a rim shot. ./'

This Thanksgiving season or the next might be good for a cover with Scott Pilgrim (and other characters with similarly suggestive names) vs. a group of bad Santas (like the recurring one on American Dad, the Santa in an ad in the Simpsons episode "Marge Be Not Proud", etc.),

ON this Thanksgiving season or the next, maybe a cover could feature Scott Pilgrim (and other characters with similarly suggestive names) vs. a gang of bad Santas (like the recurring one on American Dad, the one on an ad shown in the Simpsons episode "Marge Be Not Proud", etc.).

Simreeve, just the lone power ranger?

Carycomic said...

@Daviticus & Anonymous246: Yes, Kemo Saban.*

@Ross: for this Thanksgiving, I was half-expecting a Native American team-up. Like, say, Red Wolf and Super Chief? Ah, well! Maybe next Thanksgiving.

When I was in high school, I referred to them as the Mighty Awful Barfin' Rangers! Which ought to tell you how not-so-fond of them I was.

Carycomic said...

P.S.---considering how they've never clashed, as yet, how about Darth Vader vs. Space Ghost?

*How's the pronounciation, now, Dav? ;-)

@Carycomic: I'd rather see Dick Tracy team up with 007 to save the Octopussy Circus from the Ringmaster of Crime.

det_Tobor, I think a better fit would be JL8.

I loved Power Pack when it came out, especially the first 50 or more issues. I remember thinking that when I had kids I would have them read this, and over 20 years later I got to do that. My kids really loved Power Pack. I wish they had comics like that today. Kids are really missing out.

I'd love to know if Alex Power and Carmen Chavez ever became a thing.

@Carycomic: Looks okay to me! Also, sorry for misspelling your name earlier! (Hey, if I'm going to correct other people... :)

@Anonymous752: Yeah, I didn't care much for them, either!

@Bradley Walker: Thanks for introducing me to JL8!

Next year, the Power Rangers should meet the Power Couple.
