Geo-Force and Black Panther in: "Return of the Kings!"

Our Five -Part Epic concludes!  Don't forget to check out Part One ,  Part Two... Part Three and Part Four to get the complete story!

It will be interesting to see who is eventually cast as Doctor Doom in the MCU.  This is one character that can't get away with removing his mask every other scene, so they are going to need someone with a great vocal presence that doesn't mind having their face obscured. Let's hope we get the most comics-accurate screen Doom yet!

Yes, Doom must keep his mask on. In fact, as The Mandalorian is showing, the lead character can keep his face concealed the entire time.

Maybe David Warner can play Dr. Doom. Or, failing that, I'd accept David Prowse lip-synching for Julian McMahon.

yeAH, get a struggling actor to play the body of Doom for the credit while any voice actor gets the limelight out of the part. Darth V. is such a legend in the acting community, no agent is going to be able to do much for the client....unless It's a cgi presence the whole time. Yea TECH!!

Talking of Doom & his mask reminds me of a joke that I once saw... 'What If?' 'What The?' Somewhere else...?
It featured a villainous team whose members called themselves the 'All-Scar Squadron'.

^_^

Dr Doom was probably a member, Madame Masque certainly was, maybe Klaw?

Doom played by anyone from :Inferior 5's Merryman in a padded suit with action capture computer points to Thundra or Big Barda wearing the suit for "presence".
Then, a voice actor can play any one in history from Orson Wells to Humphrey Bogart to Ronald Reagan to 'Wilson Fisk' to absolutely anybody with a mechanical echo special effect voice. What a concept. What a voice. What a creation. Disney Marvel could use that voice for any movie, tv show, commercial or anything at anytime and own the voice. Get me a million shares of Dismay stock before it goes up.

Make it Two million Dismay shares. Doom could usher in the Fantastic Four in a movie told from his perspective. That might finally mean a Fantastic Four movie that works.

@jlbgriggs2: In an early Marvel comic, Doctor Doom put his mask on while it was far from cooled down, frying his face, turning it from normal-looking to a burned horror.

Besides The Mandalorian,* there are a few other examples of great acting with the face covered. Brent Stait did a fine turn as Doctor Fate in the Smallville double-episode "Absolute Justice," and Ryan Reynolds has done two Deadpool films with his face covered about half the time. James Spader as Ultron gets an honorable mention in this.

Expressing oneself using only voice and body language is a challenge that I guess too many actors don't think they're up to. It may be ego, or lack of confidence, or who knows what else, but there are several who I think could really work it, Tom Holland among them.

(I'd be keen on playing the Golden Age Sandman, myself.)

The only physical requirements for Doom would be an imposing stature, the great vocal presence (as you mention), and a look that supports the character's Eastern European heritage (for the time before he dons the mask). Ideally he should also be an age-peer for the actor playing Reed Richards. Aside from that, the producers would be fine hiring some recognizable name from the voice-acting community.

*I don't count Darth Vader, Chewbacca, etc., because these were different sources for voice and body. (Kudos to the late Peter Mayhew nonetheless.)

Or you could do a bunch of guest cameos with name actors (with only "Thanks to" credit) in the Doom suit in different scenes, like all the stormtrooper cameos in the Star Wars flicks. And the 'Net can go crazy figuring out who was in the suit in each scene.

And "What If" on Disney+ is going to be animated, isn't it? Do a whole episode of "What if James Earl Jones" was Dr. Doom"? "What if Kevin Connelly..."? "What if Dan Castenalla...", etc., etc.

@Jay Johnson: I think you mean Dan Castenalleta...I think!

BTW Anyone else notice this is issue #2777? :)

Re: the next cinematic Dr. Doom.

How about the Campbell Kids? Bruce (ex-Ash Williams) for the body, and Bill (ex-Rocketeer) for the voice dub?

Carycomic said...

Nahhhhhhh! That would demote him to "soup-er" villain.

What is the relevance of 2777?

Everyone seems to be concentrating on the voiceover movie questions. While that is worthy of discussion, I'd like to congratulate Ross on putting together a visually exciting and interesting premise with some outstanding covers. Great work on an extended storyline that would really be a terrific mini-series.

Thanks, Jeff!

@Anonymous: No special significance that I'm aware of. Just thought it was interesting because it has three 7's in a row. Anyway, I doubt it's a coincidence!

@Jay: No, sorry, it's Castellaneta (thanks, Wikiwand)!
