Love this!! Another brilliant entry, Ross! And “Dear Mr Watterson” is wonderful! I was one of the Kickstarter backers and very pleased with the final result. Highly recommended!!
I appreciate C & H, but never really got into it. But I can see their appeal. And a possible follow-up: They run and jump between Nightmare's realm and the Dreaming. Where better for IMAGINATION RUNNING WILD!
Actually, "lying" is correct. "Lying" is the present participle form of "lie." "Lie" means to rest or to recline. As such, that formula has been resting there. "Laying" is the present participle form of "lay." It means to put or to place. As such, "laying" would mean someone is placing the formula there.

Sigh. Just remove my comment. There's always some amateur like jlbgriggs who tries to use "logic" to support the incorrect way they've been writing their whole lives. You can go to Grammerly or Grammar Girl or any of the dozens of legitimate (and there are incorrect sources out there, for sure) grammar instruction sites, and get the real answer yourself. I don't want to get into a pi$$ing match with a fellow fan on the website, so just remove my entry and let him believe what he's going to believe anyway. As a teacher, I can tell you, you don't win arguments with logic.

I love this cover! The only flaws are Reg's grammatical correction, and that you couldn't actually use Johnny Quick for the tale (probably for lack of suitable images).
Speaking of Johnny Quick, has he ever been adapted to animation? (I know he's never been live-action; his female counterpart Jesse Quick is part of the Arrowverse, but that's not the same.)
Yes!!! The Dark Tyke is back!! "Burried Alien" was wrong though, they just got done eating a heaping bowel of Sugar Frosted Flakes! They feel GRREAT!!! The formula was just a happy co-ince-I- dink.
Is Hobbs still part of Tiger Force? I bet he still has his racing stripes.

I have seen Dear Mr. Watterson and between his history and the interviews with other cartoonists it spoke to me as a comic creator myself. I do recommend it, especially if you're in the business or just doing it for fun, and double especially if you make comic strips. I don't think your work has to be as philosophical but the passion he has for what he loves, and the same for those he inspired, should be contagious whatever your passion is and what you want to be doing with your life.
How does someone even say that formula? Do they have to say "open bracket" and "closed bracket"?
Mr. jlbgriggs is correct. Even though earlier, Flash would have been laying the formula down somewhere, after that point the formula would have been lying wherever he laid it down.
My comment obviously was not meant for public consumption, but since it was, I owe a HUGE apology to jlbgriggs for 1) being wrong and 2) being rude.

I love this cover so much! It's just wonderful, wonderful! Calvin and Hobbes was always so funny. Reading them, I laughed so much my sides ached and my heart went pit-a-pat! I miss Calvin and his wonderful pet.
Now I want to see Calvin and Hobbes with Flash's enemy the Turtle.
I'd love to see an 80 page special of the superheroes vs. the daily comics.

Another masterpiece, Ross! I don't know how you find the time to do these every single day! And the cover price hasn't increased in years! I wish I could say the same for other publishers. Comic books have gotten very expensive. For future covers I would love to see you use Superboy, Pink Panther, Baby Huey, Krusty the Clown, Mr Fantastic, Flash Gordon, Jughead, Cosmic Boy, Ant Man, Indiana Jones, Bozo the Clown, Uncle Scrooge, The Joker, Donkey Kong, Robocop, Destro, Mighty Mouse, Cyclops, Godzilla, Dr Doom, Robin, Felix the Cat, Hulk, Wonderman, Green Arrow, Daredevil, Venom, Blue Beetle, Snuffy Smith, Human Torch, Thor, Mera, Hourman, Mirror Master, Magneto, Absorbing Man, Mr Miracle, Darth Vader, Gilligan, Sabretooth, Green Lantern, Krypto, Silver Surfer, Martian Manhunter, Frankenstein, Spider Woman, Hawkeye, Sad Sack, Ice Man, Shazam, The Penguin, Invisible Woman, The Atom, Dr Midnight, and Impulse.

There was a Waid-penned issue of FLASH (I forget the number) where Linda and Frankie were discussing Wally, and Linda confirmed to Frankie that Wally still loved CFSBs. I would guess Waid is a Calvin & Hobbes fan.
Wasn't this "formula" eventually ret-conned into some kind of numerological recitation? A mathemantra, if you will?
General note: I went and looked things up, to answer my own question. There's been no animated version of Johnny Quick. All we've ever gotten outside of comics has been a couple of little Easter eggs on The Flash -- which, I think, is too bad. He's a cool character.
Kid C: That looks like the DCAU Flash, who was indeed Wally.
If ever there was a cover on this blog that I wished was a real comic, this is it! I'm sure I would adore it!

Anon's right. In the sense Flash was using the word, "laying" and "lying" are interchangeably correct.
@Cary: Yes, the formula was retconned as a "mathemantra" (nice coinage) back in, IIRC, the 1992 Justice Society series. Of course, that was before Zero Hour, and Highfather only knows how many DC retcons since then, so I don't know if it's still valid or not. (I gave up comics in 2007, chiefly because of the expense.)
So I'm way late to the game with my comments so far, but if anyone does read these, if you like C&H, then check out Max Overacts.
I think it's very much in the same spirit, and extremely well written drawn regardless.
