Rom was a good character, and in a way it was a shame that they couldn't use him in comics an longer... although at least Marvel give his series a "Happy Ever After" ending.
Of course, their slightly newer character Beta-ray Bill is based on a very similar concept...
My first thought on seeing this was to wonder "Is he actually organic enough for Ivy's spores to work?", but then I remembered that Rogue's power did so it does seem plausible enough.
Ah, Rom. How I love that series. And there's Batgirl's classic costume. I always loved that version as well.
@Simreeve The good news is Rom moved to another comic company, so he's not out of the woods yet.
As for Batgirl, at least she's still not wearing just a swimsuit for her workday. Maybe DC will try her in a Powergirl style next.
I seem to recall that the original idea for Robin was that he wore those bright colors as a way of daring criminals to shoot at him -- almost like he had an implicit luck-based superpower that bullets just don't hit him -- at least, that's how I'd read the Golden Age Dick Grayson these days. If we put that power on a version of Dick who was succeeded by Jason Todd, we can see how Jason's cockiness would lead to his death (or near-death). Where Tim Drake fits into that equation is hard to figure (though I'd call 50/50 that some other commenter will have an idea), but Damian Wayne's connection to Ra's al Ghul could at least partly account for his part.
With Batgirl, though, full coverage does seem more sensible. I could see here going with the domino mask early in her career, until she gets clocked on the head by some lucky thug; then she'd come to her senses (in more ways than one) and follow Bruce's lead for something more protective.
I blame that look on Alicia Silverspoon.
Seriously, though: how would Pamela Isley be able to infect Rom with her spores? I mean, his armor's respiratory system helps him breath in the vacuum of outer space, for Pete's sake! So, foreign atmospheric particulates should be child's play to prevent from being breathed in.
Was Poison Ivy made a DC Superhero Girl because she's eye candy?
@Anonymous #2: pretty much, yeah. Although, I'm sure the "official" reason would be worded something along the lines of "Well, if Harley Quinn can come to her senses, re: the Joker, after doing good deeds for the Suicide Squad, why not her new (implied) life-partner?"

@Anonymous 1203: they were probably Black Mercy spores. Always diagnosed as "harmless" (until they take root in the human brain).
