I agree that a live-action Man-Bat is long overdue, but if The Batman takes place early in the Caped Crusader's career, I don't think it should feature anyone very far into the "weird science" category. On the other hand, I think he'd fit quite well into the (hopefully) upcoming Batwoman series.
As for Clayface, I've been setting out a "season plan" for a hypothetical Batman TV series (just a mental exercise, mostly), and I'm setting up to get all of the comic-book iterations of Clayface. The first started with no super-powers, and would work quite well in the first or second season among the gangsters, corrupt businessmen, mundane serial killers, and the like. Then, as "weird science" creeps into the show, the legacy expands....
If we only get one Clayface against either Batman or Batwoman, I'd vote for a revisitation of the B:TAS version.
I really happen to like Man-Bat as a hero for Langstrom's flaws. I'll always hold dear his team up with the Demon in Batman Family ages ago. "What ever happened to heroes that look like heroes? Those two are the ugliest suckers I've ever seen."
Bob G, I appreciate most of what you have written, but please think before you write "mundane serial killer". Nothing is ever mundane about murder. There are possibly victims of it reading this blog. (It's a great blog.)
Last anon: "mudane" as opposed to "superpowered." These things do tend to be relative (in the same way that there are likely no actual murder victims reading this blog).
I did not mean actual murdered people, obviously. More their families, friends, communities. The timing of Bob's comment struck me, coming so soon after the Christchurch massacre. But given the frequency of school massacres in the USA, and terrorist attacks around the world, I'd be surprised if there was no-one reading the blog who has been affected by the most evil of crimes at least indirectly. One of the reasons I love this blog is its escapism, and seeing all the comments from others who prefer comics not to be to grim and gritty. Even occasionally comic!
