The Hobbits and The Silver Surfer

As a giant fan of the works of J.R.R. Tolkein, I  absolutely devoured the Lord of the Rings trilogy by Peter Jackson, especially the extended editions.  Still, I had my reservations about another trilogy of movies based on The Hobbit, a single novel.  While each of the new films had their share of cool moments, I do feel that the story would have been better served if it had been told in perhaps two movies instead of three. By the time I watched the third one, it did begin to feel a little repetitious.  Still, it's great that one of the masterpieces of fantasy was brought to life with such care.

Well, it wouldn't have been as faithful to the books if the LOTR films hadn't been a trilogy as well. But, I do think THE HOBBIT should have stuck to being just two movies.

As for today's cover art? Well done! It kind of reminds me of the interior artwork for the SWEU trade paperback about the Battle of Ruusan (that indirectly led to Darth Bane's rise to power).

Agreed re: this cover. Nice work.

It makes me think of another possible mash-up with SS, which would include his new protege, the Silver Smurf.

Looks like those old Rankin-Bass characters. Didn't know they had a comic. I wonder how long Gandalf would put up with Norrin Radd?

@ Ken Roskos:

Gandalf to the Silver Surfer and Galactus, both.

Heh! I can just see Gandalf taking on the Big G. It wouldn't end well for the wizard, but Galactus has shown a vulnerability to magic before. (I think Dr. Strange once conjured a vision where Galactus' saw all of his past victims, and collapsed.) Gandalf survived facing the Balrog, who knows how he would emerge after this sort of scuffle.

Where did you get the image of the Hobbits from? The artwork looks like it was taken from the Rankin-Bass animated movies.

It's a Walt Simonson piece, a commission I believe.

Maybe Zenn-La was the original home of the Elves.

@Ken Roskos: nah! They had round-lobed ears like us Earthlings. I think the elves of Middle-earth came from the GFFA homeworld of the Sephi.
