The Thing and Doctor Who
A lot of friends rave about the current and recent incarnation of Doctor Who, though I must confess I have not seen an episode since Tom Baker held the title role. I remember it was on PBS just before dinner everyday when I was growing up. Despite the low budget, I used to really get a kick out of the stories, especially when Leela and K-9 were included. Tom Baker was the biggest draw though, he had such an funny personality on that program. I never seem to get the BBC so I haven't been able to follow the later Doctors, but it seems like the character is more popular than ever. I hope their special effects budgets are a little bigger these days!

Fantastic!
Dave's confession - I was aware of the Tom Baker Doctor Who, but at the time the Daleks were a turn off. Cathy said over this last summer, "Hey there's this BBC sci-fi program you might like, Doctor Who. With Christopher Eccleston.
I was hooked from the start. I thought Eccleston's Doctor was great, until I saw the David Tennant incarnation. Brilliant! Not really sure about the Matt Smith version, though.
It's hard to pick a favorite of the new series of either Eccleston or Tennant, but I think "The Girl In The Fireplace" comes pretty close.
The special effects are amazing! The stories are fantastic! If you Netflix, I highly recommend it! You can stream the episodes on your computer if that is easier than getting the discs by mail. The actual box sets seem to only be available online, not in store.
Yeah..after Baker I just could not follow the show anymore. I understand how it works...but there was only one REAL Doctor.
Tom Baker was my first Doctor and will always have a special place in my heart. But, to be honest, I think he's been replaced by David Tennant. The New Doctor episodes are high-budget, and they have story elements that weave throughout the entire season. They are really amazingly well written and some of the best sci-fi ever created for television.
They are available on Netflix (streaming and discs) if you're interested.
The modern Doctor Who is such garbage. I don't know what people get out of it. It's such smug nonsense that doesn't make any sense, but morons are impressed by it and THINK it's such a clever and witty little show. The old series is still fun, warts and all. Even the crappier installments from the 80s are better than the glossy, soap opera-esque new series.
I'd love to someday see a cover where Judge Dredd is trying to arrest the 4th Doctor!
I wish for this mash up you managed to work in the corner picture from Marvel Premiere #57, may have matched the art style better than the pic you eventually used.
