Legion of Super-Heroes and Spider-Man

I'm surprised that I am only now getting to this team up. I could see Peter Parker wanting to hang around in the 30th Century, where there's a whole team of super-powered young adults that are accepted by society. He might have to change his name to Spider-Lad, but otherwise he'd probably fit right in.

They do seem a natural fit; Amalgam Comics played with the whole Spider-Man / LSH mash-up idea in what was arguably the best issue of Wave 2, even though the story was really just poking fun at LSH Post-Crisis continuity.

Love that you included the Substitutes!

Peter would love the New stuff in science as well. WIN -WIN!!

Peter and Supergirl?

Actually, this would be perfect! Especially, if the LSH approached him for membership after the way he dealt Kang's robotic doppelganger of him in that now-classic (but ill-fated) second attempt on the Avengers.

P.S.---Crazy Ivan is right. The best part of the Spider-Boy adventure from "Amalgam Comics" was the thinly-disguised observation that the LSH from the 1970's had the coolest costumes of the pre-Crisis DCU.

2nd postcript @ Detective Tobor: in the immortal words of Rod Taylor from the George Pal adaptation of HGW's THE TIME MaCHINE: "Well, and why not?"

I agree that this is a natural team-up. Spidey, this early in his career, would fit into the LSH just as well as Superboy and Supergirl actually did. (For that matter, so would Ms. Marvel!) And Tobor is indeed correct: Peter would be extra excited about 30th-century science.

It also just occurred to me that things can get pretty hairy should Kang decide to recruit the Fatal Five to deal with the Avengers.

And say, I'm still in favor of a team of heroes who can turn insubstantial, even if it's just Phantom Girl, Shadowcat, and Ghost. Call them the Untouchables!

Great cover. Think I recognize the Legion source material there.

One from the early days of the Legion. Haven't seen purple Star Boy in a long while. And the flying belts! I'm sure the artists where all in favor of the change to Flight Rings and not having to draw all those short lines in parallel.

emsley wyatt said...

They forgot the flight rings so often that it was retconned to say they could be made invisible.

Now this is the 30th Century I'd been hoping for

BEAUTIFUL!!!! And I'm one million percent in agreement with the above commentors, that the team-up of Spider-Boy with the Legion of Galactic Guardians was the absolute best of the entire Amalgam line!

Aw, phooey. I could argue that they didn't do it under Kang's guiding hand, but it still spoils the idea.

@Bob and Ross: split the difference. Change the name to the Intangibles, then have Deadman temporarily join them because Rama Kushna is trying to avert a multiversal war between General Immortus (very first foe of the original Doom Patrol) and his always "Kang-ry" namesake.

I second Anon's emotion. :-)

Ah, now a cosmic player makes his entrance! This could be the start of another mini-series right here. But I have the feeling that Spider-Man would be pulling his hair out in trying to motivate the Legion to overcome Kang. And then after the conflict, he would turn them down when they offer him membership.

...this brings a smile.

Carycomic said...

@Ken: Maybe if they sweetened the deal by offering to bring his Aunt May to the future, as well?

Then, I say...May the Fourth be with her! ;-D

Love this SO much.

Peter Parker and the early Legion!
And with 3 of my favorite members: Polar Boy, Ultra Boy and Phantom Girl!
(Too early for Wildfire and Timberwolf).

You should do a sequel for this coming Xmas, where the Avengers have to prevent the Kang-controlled LSH from preventing...The Nativity!
