Mister Miracle and Captain America

Time for another all-Kirby classic. I'm a little surprised I am only getting to this pairing now, these two look really good together.  I'm betting a soldier like Cap would find some common ground with a man that was raised for battle in the Fire Pits of Apokolips.

Klassik!

Since we've seen Cap with Thor and Iron Man, would Mr Miracle really be able to impress Steve? Steve would appreciate Scott's abilities but that would be about it. Great cover composition.

Perfect! It even fits in nicely with yesterday's issue. A time-traveling Mr. Miracle (taking the name "Thaddeus Brown") explains his need for the help of Wonder Woman and the two Invaders. They naturally agree...and they split up to handle two assignments at once.

Wonder Woman and the Torch prevent the use of the Apokoliptan-built tanks against a nearby Allied garrison. While Cap and Mr. Miracle take out the manufacturing plant and distribution hub.

How much you want to bet the guy running it is Per Degaton?*

*Well, that's my theory...and I'm sticking to it. :-)

I didn't even need to read the text or look closely at the artwork to tell that this was an all-Kirby cover. Our two heroes are both in poses that are the King all the way.

@Cary: I like that story idea. It'd be extra interesting if tomorrow's cover features Namor.

@Bob: I second your emotion. :-)

This is the first time when I read who the characters were that I knew immediately which poses would be used. Great choices!

Excellent work. Great cover and a hook for what would be great story.

@Cary & Bob: and I third it! ;-D

Funny thing, yesterday I was at a comic shop looking through some back issues of Alpha Flight and saw a couple issues of Jughead got mixed into that section...

A Jughead/Alpha Flight crossover would work well, especially if it was from Jughead Jones: Time Police!

"Gateway to the Kirby-Verse!"

Sounds like one of those hypothetical topics on Comic Vine.

"Orion vs. Captain Victory. Who would win?"

@Bob Greenwade: having seen this morning's cover, I am sad to report that there's "Namor" chance of that. At least, not right away.

@Cary: I didn't think it would actually happen. I was just remarking about how cool it would be.

But that's not to say that some future cover might not be a joint sequel featuring the Invaders and a time-traveling JLA.

@Anonymous: now, now, now! Let's try and keep the Ross-verse 100% apolitical, please.

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: Unless we can somehow convince him to do a Luthor vs. Foxbat for President cover.

Carycomic said...

Perhaps with a word balloon over Luthor's bald pate (concerning a sudden kidnapping attempt by Big Man's gang): "I just love synchronicity."

English translation: a battle of the Fred Foswells!

Naw, Lex Luthor vs Norman Osborn in a presidential run, with a Lion and a Wolf a their party mascots.

Have a Trump and Biden debate pic on the edges of the cover as an image getting torn asunder a la All New X-Men with a dialog balloon pair:

Luthor: Step aside losers, it's time for some REAL candidates to Run!
Osborn: Beside, why should America keep settling for the LESSER Evil, when they can take the BETTER Evil?

Carycomic said...

@Greg Basore: nah! Lions and wolves have more similarities than differences. Potentially allowing them to get along with each other far better than most people usually do.*

*At least, according to Gilles and Prune de Maistre.

Bob Greenwade said...

@Cary: I've suggested Big Man vs. Foxbat in the past. Unfortunately, Ross isn't familiar enough with the Champions Universe to feel comfortable doing that (not to mention there aren't that many images of Foxbat around... nor of the Big Man).

@Greggory: Across Crossovers already did a Luthor vs Osborn Presidential cover (I wish I could provide a link to it).

I suppose we could try Loki vs. Foxbat. Or a distraught Uncle Sam in front of a wall with posters for all four candidates.

Carycomic said...

@Bob: in that case, how about the Green Goblin vs. the Crossover Family?*

*A four-part mini-series originally published by CrossGen Comics (now a Marvel imprint).

@carycomic that's the gag. Two new parties that are likelier to be allies than foes... at least until they get rid of the donkey/elephant team.
