The Wonder Woman & Captain America Action Hour!

This marks the 25th appearance of the WW/Cap romance... I figured it was time they get their own cartoon.  Speaking of which, I think that Warner Bros and HBO Max should at long last give us Wonder Woman: The Animated series.  She's certainly a strong enough character to headline a show of her own.  With new animated adventures of Batman and Superman on the way, there's no reason to keep ignoring the final member of DC's Trinity.

The only criticism I have on this cover is that I don't think an hour-long show would start at 9:30, at least in the 60s/70s as this show appears to be set in. Other than that quibble, it's spot-on -- it could be a cel from an actual Hanna-Barbera production.

Now all I want from the WW/Cap franchise is the rarely-seen cult classic TV movie starring Reb Brown and Cathy Lee Crosby, and the revelation that their daughter grows up to be American Maid.

On a completely unrelated note, Jaime Jameson was talking a lot yesterday about Doctor Doom (her favorite comics character), and it got me thinking: how about pitting him against the Inferior Five? Or even Ambush Bug (possibly as a special treat for her, given her work with Keith Giffen)?

@Ross: I agree, whole-heartedly, about bringing back animated cartoons (of a non-adult nature), in general. And a solo cartoon for WW, in particular. And I especially love the concept for this cover-sim! Absolutely brilliant!!

@Bob: I think Cap's depiction is from Marvel's collaboration with DePatie-Freleng during the Eighties. But, the latter used to a do lot of contract work for WB during the late Sixties/early Seventies, so the overlap is not that big a stretch of the imagination.

P.S. @ Bob: just so long as Ambush Bug _never, ever_ teams up with Peter Griffin.

Great show. And their sponsor, of course, is G I Joe.

@Cary: Thanks for the info. It's good to know. (It still looks like an H-B cel, though!)

There were several hour long cartoons that started on the half hour. See below:

Cap doesn't look like he trusts the Invisible Airplane.

Actually, in 1968, the Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour aired at 8:30.
And the Batman/Superman Hour and the Banana Splits Adventure Hour both aired at 10:30.

Milk & Daniel: Thank you for the reminders! Now that you've pointed them out, I remember watching some of those shows, and thinking that it was kind of dumb and a little rude to do it that way, since it'd overlap hour-long shows on other channels.

I think I remember that episode! Wasn't this the one where they teamed up against Felix Faust and Doctor Faustus?

Seriously, Cap looks to have come from one of his two appearances on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends: Seven Little Superheroes where the Chameleon tries to knock off the four of them along with Namor, Dr. Strange. and Shanna the Jungle Queen. His plans were derailed by the uninvited guest of Ms Lion. The other episode was Pawns of the Kingpin where Kingpin hires Dr. Faustus to create a mind control device that can be shot into the neck of its target like a tiny dart. And then uses Captain America to steal a Government Superweapon with Iceman's unknowing help.

Faustus, of course screws up trying to mind control Kingpin.

@BG: only because Wonder Woman's screen capture is obviously from SUPER FRIENDS.

@Daviticus: I can see that.

Is the invisible jet a gift to Themyscira from Wakanda, as a token of gratitude for Wonder Woman's help in defeating some villain?
