Usually the final step in creating these covers is for me to step back, look at the image and then try to come up with some captions, dialogue or a title that will give an idea as to what the story inside might be about. Every once in a while, I feel that the image alone is enough to suggest the contents without any other additional information. This is one of those cases - I couldn't think of anything that I would add to this cover that would do anything besides clutter it up.

I agree. Sometimes, cover illustrations just speak for themselves. But, as for the title page inside the cover?
I would've used "Moon Set!" Or something equivalent, thereto.

The greatest episode teaser in Star Trek history started with two Borg cubes approaching a ship, giving their usual spiel about "your culture will be assimilated into ours," etc., when suddenly the other ship fired two shots, one at each Borg cube, and blew them up.
It lasted less than 30 seconds, and it was all we needed by way of introduction to Species 8472.
That's what you've done here, Ross. Sometimes something stark and basic is exactly what's needed, and adding anything will only take away from the impact.
In fact, if you ever have the opportunity to have an actual comics professional to draw (and preferably color) a recreation of this, I'd say to go for it.
And if Marvel and DC ever go ahead with the "Secret Crisis" event, this turn of events definitely should be a part of it.
In less than three months "Homeboys in outer space" will be having a 25th anniversary; maybe a cover could feature Homeboys... and Futurama.
"I shall call him Maxi Me." Oh, and Bob Greenwade, the greatest teaser in Star Trek history was for "Cause and Effect".
PS: A late comment from CaryComic on yesterday's cover made me wonder: is there an image anywhere of Galactus kneeling? It'd be just the thing for him sharing a cover with General Zod.
On another angle, I think it might be fun to see Galactus go up against Brainiac (the cold, metallic version).
@Anon@9:31: When HFOS first aired, I was curious and thought I'd give it a look. I had to turn it off after a minute and a half. The only thing I've seen that was more painful was the Bat-Credit Card. I'd all but forgotten it until you mentioned it here. So, thank you very much for dredging that up.
@emsley: We'll have to agree to disagree on that. The C&E teaser puzzled me; the 8472 teaser frightened me.

Great cover in concept and execution. Good idea in not using a caption, it would distract from the punch. Another one for the "Bset Of" pile.
I agree. No caption needed on this. It's just fine as it is. Still, how about something like...

...because it certainly looks like Big G is playing chess against some other Big Bad (or Big Good?). I'd love to know who. And who the other pieces might be...
Maybe a sequel... from the opposite POV?
