New Mutants Vs. Doom Patrol

Well, after numerous delays,  New Mutants has finally been released to theaters.  It has only been getting middling reviews, but I like the characters so I am sure that I will check it out as a home rental at some point.  It looks to be a pretty low budget affair, with minimal use of powers and filmed on a single location.  Then again, Lockheed looked really cool on the commercial, and I am interested in how the Demon Bear is handled.  Has anyone gotten a chance to check it out?

I've seen it. It wasn't everything I'd been hoping for by any means, but it did give us a dark look at what happens to mutants in a random live action X-Men universe that aren't X-Men.

Good combo, Ross! Does this mean there's going to be a Sunspot vs. Negative Man fight soon...?

Not as yet. The only movie theater still open, in my neck of the woods, is the Pleasant Valley Drive-In! And this weekend is the first double-bill they've shown, all summer, that _hasn't_ been re-releases!

On that note, I will guess that Caulder and Xavier have been abducted by the Collector. Although, why he'd want to start collecting paraplegic geniuses is beyond me.

I saw it Saturday. I'd call it a good choice for a matinee show. There are unnecessary personality changes to Sunspot and Magik, an equally unnecessary (and somewhat distracting) romantic sub-sub-plot, and a few plotting and logic problems that I won't go into right now (if someone asks I'll talk about a couple of non-spoiler-y ones). On the other hand the performances from Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, and Anya Taylor-Joy are quite good; the extra time for editing and special effects was well spent; and the mood and feel were on par with, say, Stranger Things Season 1 or 2. As for Lockheed and Demon Bear, I found them slightly disappointing, but only slightly; the changes made to the characters from the comics were necessary to the plot, though Lockheed's presence at all seemed unnecessary.

I went to see it when it first came out, as the trailer looked interesting. I'm not a Marvel-reader and have NEVER read any New Mutants, so I had no preconceptions; Arthur (the friend I went with) HAD read them. So, I actually liked it quite a lot; Arthur had more issues of a "that's not how it was" variety but otherwise thought it was good.

Ross, I saw that in SFT #222 you had Doom Patrol and the FF. What about a Buscema-style mano a mano battle with stretchy Reed vs stretchy Rita, Torch vs Neg Man, and orange Thing vs orange Robot Man? Sue and Niles could be cheering their teams on. Or maybe Sue vs Rita (size vs force shield), and Reed and Niles are urging their teams on...or...plot twist...egging on the OTHER team to beat their team! (Psycho-Man and Psycho-Pirate as the villains?)

@Reg & Ross: I'd prefer Mr. Fantastic vs. Madame Rouge. With, perhaps, the latter out to get Rogue of the X-men. The motive? She's fed up with the two of them being mistaken for each other due to incessant misspelling on the Internet!
