It's a Hanna-Barbera rope. It doesn't need to be attached to anything.
Off topic: I just learned that the CW has confirmed an upcoming spinoff series with Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, with Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane and a yet-unannounced young actor as Jon Kent. That might make an appropriate moment for a Superman/Grimm crossover (since Elizabeth was also a featured actress on the latter TV show).

I always thought the artificial webbing was just rubber cement mixed with magnetically-guided iron filings.
@Anon421: That might've been how Mysterio faked _his_ artifical webbing, the first time he impersonated Spidey. But, I think Peter Parker is a little bit more inventive than that!
