Photon and Jesse Quick

Apologies to Rick Springfield and Paul Williams...

The main thing I really want from a Captain Marvel sequel is Monica Rambeau gaining her powers to become Photon.  Well, that's the name I use for her on this blog, they are just as likely to go with Spectrum.  Frankly, I liked it when Rambeau went by Captain Marvel, and I don't think she should have given up the title.  Whatever they call her, I hope the seeds that were planted with young Monica in the first film will blossom into the full hero we know from the comics.

Are those guns being held by earth-stf's John Rambeau? Is that the connection?

Although there may be a full spectrum of other potential members to come, for now, Photon, Dr Light and The Ray continue to show their valor in the latest Charge of the Light Brigade.

I'm still laughing.

P.S. @ Anonymous 713: it's more likely Rocky The Ball Boa (of the Serpent Society).

Maybe Rocky Balboa vs. Mr. T over what brand of pierogies is the best. LOL!!! XD!!!

I believe the reason why she got the Captain Marvel name was because how badly a writer treated the character as an Avenger "Getting interdimensionally pregnant, birthing the child who grows up to adulthood and then she goes away with him?" For sure the Marvel Studios would not try to include that story for it would take down Marvel Studios.

Carol Danvers hasn't been called Captain Marvel in a movie yet so they don't necessarily have to give Monica a codename.

I was rereading old Roger Stern issues of Avengers and saw Captain Marvel's (Monica's) costume referred to as black and SILVER. I never knew it was supposed to be silver, I think white works better.

I'm not sure, but I don't recall Black Widow or Hawkeye ever being directly called by those names in the MCU. For that matter, I don't think Cloak and Dagger have used those names yet either.

Even so, I like the idea of Monica taking her mother's old Air Force code-name. She's my favorite hero to ever use the name Captain Marvel (edging out even Billy Batson, who is still who I first think of when I hear the name), but Photon just sounds cooler.

I don't think Marvel Studios would've brought Maria and Monica into the story if they didn't at least hope to give us an adult, super-powered Monica during Phase 4, and of all the teased-but-not-yet seen heroes in the MCU she's the one I'm most excited about.

Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel) is also on Kevin Feige's "we want to include" list, and in fact I'd predict that, if the rumored Young Avengers film becomes reality, she'll make her debut in that.

Turning to the other lady on this cover, I like what's been done with Jesse Quick on The Flash, though overall I'd like to see a little more of her. I think we can expect her (and Jay Garrick) during Crisis on Infinite Earths, but really, I'd like to see just a little more, especially if the producers can blossom the relationship between her and Wally. (I like the costume she uses on the show much better than the one shown here, though.)

And regarding the cover itself, I'd love to see this team-up actually happen in a comic. Marvel and DC could have a great avenue for cross-promoting their second- and third-tier characters by co-publishing a regular monthly title. Alas, Disney has a recent history of not playing well with others.

Disney is allowing IDW to publish Marvel Comics now. I think that's an indication that in the near future they will just license the Marvel characters to other comic book publishers just as they already do with Mickey Mouse and other classic Disney characters.

@Sgt Snorkel: I may be wrong, but I think all the Marvel stuff that IDW is doing are either reprints of Licensed Characters books that Marvel put out when they had those licenses (Star Trek, Conan, ROM, etc), creator-owned books that Marvel published a run of (ElfQuest), or team-up mini-series with another licensed character. I doubt we will see Marvel characters teaming up (except possibly for some charity or PSA cause) with characters owned by another major publisher anytime soon.

Monica was 'my' Captain Marvel. Her origin issue is still an all-time favorite 'old' Marvel, and her early adventures with The Avengers were fantastic.

And I thought my Cheech and Chong vs Hawk idea 'Dove's Not Here, Man' was bad XD

What's next? Yosemite Sam and the Wasp vs the Phantom Stranger in 'Sam and Janet evening, you may see a Stranger"?

Actually, Glenn, that happened to Carol Danvers when she was still the original MS. Marvel! It was Monica who was inducted to the Avengers as the new captain following her debut in a Spider-Man Annual.

A correction to Sgt Snorkel, and (indirectly) to myself: Carol Danvers is referred to as Captain Marvel in the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Whether that specific footage ends up in the actual movie... well, we'll find out next month.

@Sgt Snorkel: Things I Learned Today. Thank you. Makes sense. Marvel hasn't done well with non-continuity imprints themselves, so licensing out characters to another publisher / editorial team, which as you said Disney is familiar with, is a good business decision.

@Bob Greenwade: well, you were half-right in your prediction. Kamala will be debuting in November with THE MARVELS.
