Starro always seemed so creepy to me as a kid. There were other space-spanning, world-conquering menaces in comics, like Galactus, Darkseid, Thanos, Despero and so on - but they were still relatively humanoid in appearance. Starro was no offshoot of man, making his motivations seem truly alien in nature. There seemed to be no reasoning with such a creature.
The Surfer first tangled with Starro in one of the back up features in STF #700...

Starro would have been a better villain for the Justice League film...
why am I seeing a part 2, saying Galactus vs Starro for the Surfer.
Galactus only looks humanoid to humanoids: We've been shown that he looks quite different to sapients of other types.
@AirDave: Time/Warner are probably saving him for their debut as a fully-functioning team. Same as his comic book debut back in the Early Silver Age.
@Simreeve: true! But, Starro was more Lovecraftian-looking right from the start.
I, too, would love to see Starro in live action. He could even be the main baddie in a future Arrowverse Crossover Event.
And I think Cavillier1970 has a decent idea: follow this up with a Galactus vs. Starro meet.
He was once human.
While the fanboys would love to see Starro in the movies, the mainstream would just laugh at him. At least in any action-type movie. I could see him in an Justice League Dark movie if they played up the Lovecraftian aspect and went for the "silent horror" atmosphere. What I'm afraid of, though, is that Starro will be one of the "monsters of the week" that the Legends will be fighting this season and he'll be played for laughs (Mick trying to burn a starfish off of Ray's face while Sara holds him back, etc.)
I'd like to see a Starro/Cthulhu team up now :D
Which is why I hate the movie adaptations!love this site
Mike is "Shirley" right.
@Unknown: to each their own.
Come on captain carrot and his amazing zoo crew beat him. Twice.
I checked the Starro tag.
Ross has pitted Starro against the Surfer (twice), the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.
I hope to see Starro vs. the Avengers fairly soon. ^_^
"Starro...we would have words with thee."
Also, given Starro's cosmic-threat nature, the Guardians of the Galaxy would make good opponents, too.
Kid Charlemagne's recommendation raises an interesting question.
Would one of Starro's mini-hims be able to mind-control Wonder Man (given the ionic energy field responsible for his revivification)?
@Carycomic: Ross seems to think so. See STF #1111.

That has actually happened in DC/MArvel canon, in the 'JLA/Avengers' crossover...
(If you haven't read that yet, find a copy: It's wonderful!)
The only thing I disliked about the second FF movie adaptation was making Galactus resemble an interstellar smog bank. Aside from that? It was still an Oscar-winner compared to that lousy reboot with Mara Whomever as Susan Storm.
Given the subway scene in the initial Suicide Squad trailer I was convinced the film's villain was going to be Starro. Untapped potential.
