Sub-Mariner Vs. The Creature From The Black Lagoon

The Creature from the Black Lagoon remains for me one of the greatest monsters ever created for the silver screen.  The suit is a true work of art and looks amazing above and below water.  It definitely frightened me as a kid and certainly has had an influence on other movie makers, most recently Guillermo del Toro as seen in The Shape of Water.  I do wish that he had crossed over with some of the other Universl Monsters back in the day.

But has this story already happened? https://slaymonstrobot.blogspot.com/2010/05/namor-and-black-lagoon.html

Maybe that'll happen with the sequel to the Scientological remake of "The Mummy?"

Nah! Universal's hopes for a Shared Monster-verse flopped with that remake.

I love the idea of this cover. I can see how the story would go, with Namor becoming increasingly aggressive toward the Creature until some other character persuades him to leave the Creature to live in the lagoon in peace. The whole thing would be an exercise in aggression against the "unfamiliar, unknown 'other,'" with occasional Easter eggs and other quirky humor to keep it from becoming too dark. Yeah, done properly this would be a classic.

Very, very cool cover. Love the painted art here and the amount of detail included by the artists.

I remember reading that 50's tale of the Black Lagoon monster copycat some years back. The artist/artists didn't even try to hide the dead-on resemblance did they? I wonder why they weren't sued for that when nowadays they sure would be for the obvious copyright infringement.

Either way, a fight between these two, however brief due to Namor obviously being the stronger and tougher of the two, would be a fun little romp to see.

This has got to be the most unique cover done on this sight for 7 years, since you were doing "Marvel Two-In-One" covers. it was the Thing and Supergirl from you April 13 2011.

Does Universal Studios have their own comicbook publishing house in This Decade?

@Brother Barnes: Moonstone Comics used to do loose adaptations of the Universal movie monsters. I don't know who has licensing rights, now, though. I would wildly guess either IDW or Dynamite Entertainment.

Cary Comic I see, although that wasn't my question.

Guellermo Del Toro's proposal for the Creature of the Black Lagoon was regected by Universal, so he rewrote it, and it became the Shape of Water. Bet the staff member who turned that away isn't getting a promotion soon!

Is he related to Benicio Del Toro (AKA DJ)?
