Kamandi and Sub-Mariner in: "Terror, Thy Name is Titano!"

One thing I never got about the Golden Age Sub-Mariner stories I read was the way he was depicted.  His head was shaped like a big triangle!  It wasn't just the artist's style, the other characters in the stories had normally shaped heads... but Namor himself had a noggin that was big and fat on the top and narrow at the chin.  It looked so weird to me, it was hard to get past it.

Kamandi and Namor previously met in a story that began in STF #570 and continued into STF #571 - and they were joined by The Hulk in STF #877...

Any weirder than the teeny wings on his ankles?

Any weirder than a mutant crab named after a giant gorilla that once had kryptonite vision?

Meh, he's a mutant.

Also, Uatu looks like a giant space baby dressed as a Roman senator...LOL...

What I couldn't get over was that he just acted like a jerk all of the time!
Why did Cap even want to work with him at all. #CapIsaSaint

Has Namor ever meet the cast of Spongebob Squarepants?

@1st Anonymous: This Titano was a Jack Kirby creation first depicted in Marvel's TALES TO ASTONISH #10 (1960), before making an encore appearance (as a reprint) ten years later in TOWER OF SHADOWS #7.

Given that he was drawn as a giant _blue_ crab, I would hazard to guess that he was originally from Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

We need to see Aquaman and Aqualad team up with Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy.

I've seen several Golden Age stories featuring Namor the Triangle-Head. Everett's original stories weren't like that, so I wonder when and why it started?

I've seen some of those pictures, and I always assumed that it had to do with his hairstyle (which, in retrospect, didn't make any sense because his hair would be wet and thus slicked down to his skull).

Oh, and I second the Namor/Spongebob suggestion.

@Ross: then how about Titano the Crab vs. Titano the Gorilla?

P.S.---I know you've depicted them as members of a group of undersea superheroes. But, have you ever shown Aquaman or Namor teaming up with Ariel (The Little Disney Mermaid) one-on-one?

@Anonymous: I believe you're thinking of "Agents of the Abyss." Of which, Stingray was the Marvel component. Not Namor!

Re: Namor's triangle head, from Wikipedia (Carl Pfeufer):

As comics historian and one-time Marvel editor-in-chief Roy Thomas described, "When Bill Everett joined the army in 1942, his major successor as Sub-Mariner artist was Carl Pfeufer. Pfeufer soon evolved Namor's musculature and vaguely triangular head to almost grotesque proportions, but basically filled Bill's shoes admirably."

^Except he gave him a big-ass head that he'd never be allowed to live down, ;)

I use to think the tiny wings on Sub-Mariners ankles were stupid until he lost them during John Byrne's Namor series and he could no longer fly until the wings grew back.

I can't believe that I only just now got the "Crush Station" pun. I must be slipping....

You and me, both, Bob.*

*I initially thought it was a double in-joke reference to the Canadian rock group Crush and the relatively more recent NYC band Station!
