Superman and Iron Man (The Movie!)

Rumors about Batman Vs. Superman are swirling, and that's not surprising with such a long-awaited screen pairing.  But what if Superman had been allowed to team up with another hero when he first appeared in the movies?  If I was an producer with unlimited resources back in the day, it might look something like this.

Oh Man, oh man, Ross! You were having too much fun creating this cover! Excellent! I was never one to buy movie adaptation comics as a kid. But I would read as my of it as I could at the newsstand or grocery store until the shopkeeper chased me out!

In Supergirl (what a debacle of a movie) Jeremy Irons looked bored, drunk and depressed as the villain he played, and since then, I can't really see him in any more super hero movies! But since it was the '80s, and almost every comic book movie was crap back then (Howard the Duck), I'd be willing to give Irons and pass.

That was peter O'Toole, not Jeremy Irons

Another well-done cover from a hard-to-pull-off notion.

Of course it's hard to find two separate images of two flying heroes as seen from the exact same angle, so these two don't quite line up. Clearly Tony saw something over to the right that he wants to take care of so Supes can handle the main problem.

The villains in Supergirl were Faye Dunaway and Peter Cook. Peter O'Toole played Zaltar, a Kryptonian friend of Kara's.

After Superman, Christopher Reeve starred in a movie called The Monsignor. A friend of mine made a parody ad with the phrase "You will believe a cleric can fly," and co-starring "Gene Hackman as Martin Luthor... Margot Kidder as the Flying Nun... and Marlon Brando as the Voice of God."

Awesome cover!

I don't know why, but I got hooked on reading comic adaptations of movies. I read the one for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and tried to track down everyone that came out. I stopped with Spider-Man 2. Reading Superman III drawn by Curt Swan was a treat.

Maybe that's why I got hooked on The Batman Adventures comic for the Batman: TAS series. They were cool done-in-ones. I gave up on Green Lantern: The Animated Series comic because of the title and because, like the show, they threw him out to the farthest reaches of space against Red Lanterns. I didn't care for that. I would have loved to see Sinestro and some of the other characters...

I would have gone with Tom Selleck instead of DeNiro for IRON MAN.

Peter Cook played the villain? Oh, so he WAS "bored, drunk and depressed".

And actually, for M.O.D.O.K I would have chosen Dominique Pinon.

Selleck's a great choice for that period. Or even Burt Reynolds.

Well, it appears I may have to sit through Supergirl again, because I just realized I have no idea what that movie was about when I originally saw it. Peter O'Toole...Kryptonian friend? Faye Dunaway? Peter Cook? Good grief, the '80s were really something else!

The Helen Slater version of Supergirl was an Oscar-winner compared to the Catwoman movie that wasted Halle Berry's talents. "And that's the fact, Jack!"
