Star Trek and Duck Dodgers

I recently checked out the animated Star Trek series on Netflix.  I had only seen one episode decades ago and I only had dim memories of it.  The animation is very limited with a lot of re-used footage and static poses, but I must say that it was fun to have the original cast providing the voices.  I also liked the addition of truly alien looking crew members years before such a thing would happen in live action.  It's a fun glimpse into the past, but I would only recommend it for die-hard Trek fans.  The Looney Tunes cartoons are a different story altogether.  While they predate the Trek series, they hardly seem dated to me at all.  I can pop in one of the collections and they impress and amuse me as much as the first time I watched them.

Of note: DragonCon has a tradition that while the judges are tallying their results for the Masquerade, they show "Duck Dodgers, in the 24 1/2 Century".

It is quite an experience to be in a room with several thousand people all shouting "DUCK DODGERS IN THE TWENT-FOURTH AND A HALF CENTURY!" all in unison. :)

Awesome cover - because comics should be fun!

I have the box set for the Star Trek animated series. I'm a die-hard fan, and it is still kinda brutal to watch. But, it is in the style of '70's animation. I'm dying for The New Adventures of Gilligan to be collected.

Star Trek, Gilligan, The Brady Kids, they were all done in that Archies style.

Animation sure has come a loooooong way.

I've tried to watch that new Looney Tunes series, but the whole "Friends" approach with Bugs and Daffy as room-mates...I don't know...

Animation in the 70s was less about the impressive visuals than it was about telling the story. Some of the storytelling was just as "cardboardy" as the animation (like on the later Super Friends tales), but the animated Star Trek didn't succumb to that -- probably because they used many of the same writers as worked on the original series.

As for Duck Dodgers, I saw the original cartoon as a kid (in the 60s) and to this day still make reference to his infamous disintegrator from time to time.

What a genius choice! When I saw who the teamup was, I didn't know how you'd pull it off ... but animated Trek was perfect! Nice looking cover...

I don't remember the Star Trek animated series having a comic, but I remember Duck Dodgers using an evaporator to get to the spaceport. (Long before the transporter became a common sci-fi element.)
