Animal Man Vs. Kraven The Hunter

It's good to see that Animal Man finding an audience again in the New 52.  I loved the earlier series as written  by Grant Morrison, but after he left the title, DC didn't seem to know what to do with Buddy Baker.  I can't say that I am a huge fan of Animal Man's new costume design, but I am glad he is back in his own comic.

I was always amused by the fact that the X-Men's early 1990's flight jacket uniforms originated with Buddy's mother-in-law making him wear something over his costume so he wouldn't catch a cold flying around in his underwear.

Yeah,Buddy started a whole trend. Even the Human Torch was wearing a jacket for a little while. While flamed on.

Ack! I forgot about that! I think Crystal was wearing one too, for a while. Of course, the idea of someone who controls the elements wearing a jacket to keep warm isn't nearly as ridiculous as someone whose whole body is on fire wearing one. I hope that was the 'shark-jumping' moment for extraneous jackets. I can't remember exactly, but things got so screwy in the 90's that it's possible that there was a super-hero team with a dog mascot and somebody drew a jacket on the dog for a few issues before an editor noticed and said,"Uhhh... we ought to rethink this..."

I thought they wore the jackets so they would have somewhere to put wallets and keys.

The Silver Age Animal Man was undeniably better than Morrison's. Talk about too much grim-and-grittiness!
