Swamp Thing and Man-Thing

I've always dug characters that can cross over genres and these two swamp monsters certainly fit the bill.  One issue could be a full on horror tale with a supernatural tinge and then then next issue Batman or Spider-Man would show up.  I enjoyed Swamp thing as a kid and then was blown away like everyone when Alan Moore took over the title - but I have to admit I found Man-Thing to be the scarier of the two characters.  The creepy nonhuman design and the fact that he would burn anyone, good or evil, if they showed too much fear sent chills down my young spine.  Swamp Thing is enjoying better sales than he has had in years with the DC Reboot, and Man-Thing has been starring with the Thunderbolts lately.  It's good to see the big guys still performing strong!

you should add some of the other muck monsters, like the original, the Heap, have them fight Solomon Grundy! I'd buy that in a hot minute!

I just realized that you'll probably never get a Giant-Size Man-Thing joke on The Big Bang Theory. This is because Man-Thing is a Marvel character, and TBBT is produced by Warner Bros, which owns DC Comics.

Just a thought.

Funny you teamed up those two. On deviantart.com, this guy who's been doing "New Amalgam Comics" merged Swamp Thing and Man-Thing to make "Swampman".

Dave sez,

Cool!
First Namor & Aquaman; now Man-Thing and Swamp Thing. Marvel and DC sure spend a lot of their time creating similar characters...
:)

I haven't seen the second Swamp Thing movie with Heather Locklear or the cable Man-Thing movie...are either worth watching?

No and no.

I just did a Grundy cover the other day...

Well, the Man-Thing movie wasn't as horrible as I expected. I can't say that I regret watching it, but my time certainly could have been better spent with something else. Like TBBT reruns...

Speaking of which, I think Mitchell might be right! I hadn't noticed it, but all the comic book characters mentioned on TBBT are DC. Sheldon wears Flash and GL shirts, they dress as the JLA for the costume contest, the comics on the walls are DC...

Although they did mention Marvel comics in the Stan Lee episode, so they are not fanatical about it. Oh, and Sheldon wore Hulk hands. So maybe we will get a Man-Thing joke someday.

Great team-up and great cover! This match-up demonstrates perfectly why your Super-team Family concept works so well! Really loving the new direction!

Not only did Swamp Thing and Man-Thing debut almost simultaneously but this third guy showed up (courtesy of Neal Adams) at the same time and nearly made a company crossover on his own:

http://www.comics.org/issue/24339/cover/4/

The weird thing is that Adams' creature has red eyes, even though Man-Thing's only prior appearance was black and white (by Gray Morrow in SAVAGE TALES). Adams was going to draw the second Man-Thing story, but the second issue of SAVAGE TALES was postponed for two years and his story got reformatted, colored and inserted into a Ka-Zar story for ASTONISHING TALES, with red eyes.

Love this pairing! I always thought the original Amalgam did it wrong when they merged Man Thing with Man Bat. Should've merged these two.

Great site you have going on here, great ideas and great fun, How about Legion and Imperial Guard, Justice league and Squadron supreme, Moon knight & Batman, Quasar & Green Lantern, there's so many possibilities...wow

Batman/Moon Knight is already done, just check the archives. At least one more you list is done and waiting to be posted as well.

Aw man! You rule! I had this idea and was looking to see if there had ever been a Man Thing Swamp Thing crossover and you are just kicking ASS with this idea!!! Shit I'm not even going to bother doing fake crossovers now. Great job!

Thanks Sean, stay tuned - there are hundreds more to come!

Awesome @ Ross, you the man!!!

I've been going backwards looking thru all your mind blowing crossovers and saw you liked a lot of MAN-THING!

Was thinking did he? Didn't he? He did!!!

Perfect crossover, have no idea why DC and Marvel never put these together in a one-shot? Would have been great!

@Ross: SWAMP THING 2, co-starring Heather Thomas, was five stars compared to Syfy Channel's bastardization of the Man-Thing.

I had to use Google to find this classic crossover on your website. Your "Swamp Thing" and "Man-Thing" labels didn't show it

Love it but the Marvel logo should be included on the cover as well as it is on all DC/Marvel crossovers.
