Starfire and ROM

Because You Demanded It!  OK, nobody demanded this one but I thought it would be a fun match-up.

I've read some of the recent controversy with Starfire's behavior in the New 52 DCU, and while I like a lot of what DC has done lately, I think they dropped a ball a bit here.  The Manga-esque Teen Titans cartoon was a hit and Starfire (albeit a younger version to skew towards the children's demographic) became quite popular with young girls.  I think DC would have been better served trying to capture some of that audience when presenting her new adventures rather than to emphasize some of Starfire's more salacious traits, which only caters to the existing male readers.

ROM even makes mittens look cool... I wish the actual ROM too looked as badass as the comic version.  I'm surprised we haven't seen a ROM revival by now, it seems like everything from the 80's has gotten a chance at a revamp
.

I am totally digging the Super-Team Family run you've been doing!

ROM's intellectual property is mired as badly as Miracleman, alas. On reflection, that might be good, in that we don't have to put up with an emo-cisgender ROM. I predict the new Starfire will never catch on, the 'toon one will last for decades.
New ROM will see the light this century, even if the fans have to do it themselves.

Dave sez,

Now this is an offbeat team-up! I like it!

I saw Hawk & Dove, Static Shock, Teen Titans and Red Robin - the whole "Teen" section of DC's New 52 and went "Noooooooooooooooooooo!" All except for Blue Beetle, and even that is on the bubble. While there are some cool new ideas - Aquaman, Justice League - there are some really bad ones.

USA Today is reporting today that six new titles will debut in May, and the Hawk & Dove story will end...

I am really enjoying these off-beat team-ups. If I may offer a few of my own - Spectre and Thor; Iron Man and Steel ; Deadpool and Plastic Man and a Doc Fate,Doc Strange and Herbie the Fat Fury 3-way.

You've already come across David H. Who in turn from our first meeting because of the original cover from this same scene http://zhaanman.deviantart.com/art/Jack-of-Hearts-and-Rom-201301622
Ha How funny is that, and to top it off I just posted a piece I'm just starting to ink in from issue 17 cover of Starfire! http://zhaanman.deviantart.com/#/d4m11l9
You know another thing, the statement where you say, "ROM even makes mittens look cool..." That is so True Ha!!

I completely agree on the topic of the Teen Titans Go! Starfire and the ghastly New 52 Playmate version. I think this Pandora character is an escape hatch if- hah!- when it all goes belly up by the summer.

As for team-ups, how about the Ditko/Adventure Starman and Star-Lord; Black Lightning and Black Goliath; and Ms. Marvel vs. Power Girl?

sorry folks i dunno if it's because i don't have kids, or if it's because of the kiddy friendly nature of the Titans cartoon or maybe just because i'm a guy but i really really don't mind the "free love" version of Starfire.
on the matter of the Titans cartoon i really hate it when the writers and animators do that. i think Batman: Brave&Bold is God awful too, completely unwatchable. The Justice League Unlimited and Young Justice cartoons are excellent examples of how a cartoon show should be done to have universal appeal age wise.
anyways all that aside Ross, the ROM and Starfire pairing is great and i'm happy to feature it (properly accredited) on the Rom blog today. although it would be nice to know of all the possibilities out there what inspired this particular team up in the first place?

I started woth the ROM image and was looking for someone to pair him with. It could have just as easily have been Green Lantern but I liked the offbeat nature of the Starfire/ROM combo so I went with it.
