The Thing and Han Solo

Ah, Han Solo - one of the greatest characters ever created for the screen. The prequel trilogy for Star Wars certainly had it's share of problems which have been discussed over and over, but one thing I don't hear people bring up is the absence of a lovable rogue type character. Harrison Ford played the part so well in the original films and he brought a much needed humanity to them. Here was a character who could play the skeptic and say a lot of the things the audience was thinking. You have to love Chewbacca, too. My eight year old eyes thought he was about the coolest thing ever when I first saw the film... although I still wonder how the heck a mercenary like Solo had the patience to learn the Wookie language!

Great point about the prequels. I really hoped that Ewan McGregor would play Obi Wan more in the 'loveable rogue' vein. Sigh. Great job as usual! Thanks for the daily day-brightener.

by Dave,

What a BRILLIANT team-up!

The Marvel Star Wars comic was GENIUS, sheer genius!

I saw The Phantom Menace in the theatres, vomitted in mine own mouth because of Jar Jar Binks, and never saw the other two until just last year on DVD. While Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan was pretty decent, Hayden Christensen was just awful.

And, now that you mention it, none of the characters live-action or CGI could fill the gaping hole left by Ford's Han Solo.

I think beyond all the problems we all suffered through, the real issue was the lack of heart given by Luke, Leia and of course, Han. George thought aliens and droids would be enough but he left out the true heart. I just want more of these three chatacters, together.

I had no complaints with the Prequel Trilogy whatsoever. The Not-So-Special Edition of the original trilogy from 1997, however?
