Spider-Man and Black Canary

This is another example of a cover that required a bunch of de-cluttering before I could add in any new elements. Here's a look at the behind the scenes progress:

So, the guy in the original artwork is the real Red Skull rather than his Algerian-based (formerly) East German namesake?

Whoops! I was so overwhelmed by the original artwork that I almost forgot to comment on your reworking of it. And it was seamlessly blended...as usual.

Maybe Spider-Man could mee George off the Jungle and Disney’s Quasimodo; they could be Spider-Man’s apprentices.

As for what that "one more mission" might be? Well, let's put it this way: "Dr. Fate says that, with Batgirl stuck on planet Mongo searching for Commissioner Gordon, you and I are the only ones who stand any chance of breaking the Queen Bee's control over the shrunken JLA!"

If it makes it more manageable, you could even depict them in separate adventures! Spidey and Jungle George vs. Kraven the Hunter and/or Spidey and Quazzi vs. the renegade gargoyle Demona.

P.S.---see STF #3535.

The Shade's capture of Photon (@ STF #4489) must've altered the history of STF #3339.

Whichever of these artists did Spidey... not his best work, the way his torso is on sideways with no sign of twisting.

But that aside, I can see how the decluttering job on this one would've been a mess for you, Ross. I would've felt more comfortable with a bit more space behind Dinah, given her pose, but this job gave you enough on your plate as it was.

And yes, that cover gives a good tease for whatever story is inside.

On a completely different line of thought: how about something where we see Bobo (of the Umbrella Academy) fitting out Detective Chimp with gizmos, in the way that James Bond gets from Q?

Wow, even having to change the plant behind Dinah. You have a lot of 'eye for detail' , Ross. & Black Canary sr was a nice touch. It would be interesting to know how Peter knew how to get hold of her... a superhero switchboard website?

Maybe through her nephew NYPD Lt. Kerry Drake (who might've been trained by Gwen Stacy's dad).

Why not just make it a lot simpler? The Golden Age Tarantula told Spidey where to find her.

The Red Skull in the original artwork was intended at the time to be the original Red Skull, but there were discrepancies between the implications of the flashbacks in this story and the Skull's established history, so he was later retconned to be the 1950s Red Skull (who hadn't been thought up yet, as a separate person, when this comic came out).
