Doctor Strange and The Legion of Super-Heroes

Here's another cover that comes about as a result of a conversation in the comments section of this blog. Thanks for the idea, Emsley Wyatt! I figured this would be a somewhat cluttered cover, and it is - but I managed to get everyone in there.  Let's just hope that Doctor Strange is a bit more careful with his spell casting than he is in Spider-Man: No Way Home!

Another seamless job! Doc S is just one more Legionnaire.
Bouncing Boy looks as if he's readying to use the Doc as a jumping off point for his attack.
Superboy is obviously wondering who the hell this phantom stranger is, and whether capital letters are called for, and maybe he's a Crisis or two behind on the rest of the gang. Is he going to be retconned out of this scene by this Occult geezer...

So that's what the second printing 's cover looked like. It was already sold out by the time I got to my comics store. The Legion, in its prime with Superboy, never looked better or did as much in helping the Doctor without borders. Bravo! Absolutely beautiful cover. And Dr Strange using Wildfire like that? NEVER would have thought of it.

It doesn't look like Wildfire is being used for anything by the doc. Unless it's to doubly energize the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak or the Ruby Rings of Ragadorr (Raggador?) with his anti-particles.

What do you want to bet they're after the Emerald Eye of Ekron?

Hey, don't blame Strange! You'd have trouble getting any work done with Spidey yammering at you non-stop. I seem to remember an issue when Dr. Strange is trying to get Peter to meditate so he can be sent to the Spider realm, and Peter is basically doing the "Are we there yet?" routine, at which point Strange says something like: "You have an unquiet spirit." There's a pause, and then Spidey replies: "Yeah, I get that a lot..."

WOW!!!! I'm honored. Great job, seamless and flawless. I especially like Dormammu's hand on Mordu's shoulder, giving him the "best bud" treatment, perhaps before the sudden, but inevitable betrayal.

Splendid. ^_^

Plot twist: Mordru recruited Dormammu, and now they're actually trying to recruit the Legion--because Darkseid has risen again, and he's looking for the Infinity Gems.

Happy Stan Lee's Birthday!

One thing about Strange's part in Spider-Man: No Way Home: Nobody in the film, nor anyone in the real world that I've heard from, have pointed out that the mess really is partly his fault. He should've explained to Peter what would actually happen before he started the spell, and given Peter the chance to respond with whether that was what he really wanted and who should still remember. Starting the spell and then explaining was a perfect formula for the confusion that ensued, regardless of who he was doing it for. (Maybe he just got too excited about casting the spell against Wong's advice.)

There's nothing wrong with a cluttered cover, when there's plenty to look at in every part, and that's the case here.

I recall that the discussions on this pair of villains included "Amalgamizing" them into Mordrumammu or some such. Looking at them side by side, I now wonder if anyone's ever actually drawn such a thing. (A quick image search on Bing doesn't show any such thing.)

@Dave: Actually, to me, BB looks like he's aiming his feet at Mordru's butt.

@Tobor: Doctor Strange using Wildfire? From my perspective, it looks like he's interposing himself in front of Saturn Girl (who is, after all, the most vulnerable Legionnaire present, from a defensive standpoint).

As long as Bouncing Boy is there, it will all turn out OK.

I think Detective Tobor's comment about Wildfire was referring to what happened in the story, not the cover. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet, so I'll just leave it at that. ;)

With Bouncing Boy, Karate Kid, and Saturn Girl it isn't exactly the Legions A-Team in terms of physical strength.

@Bob Buethe: strange daze, indeed. ;-D

@emsley: On the other hand, Saturn Girl can be much more useful in this situation than one might expect, and one underestimates Bouncing Boy at one's peril.

Especially, if the "Saturn Girl" hiding behind Dr. Strange is actually Princess Projectra. Or even Chameleon Boy!

Either one of them could be helping to keep Mordramamu's attention fixated frontward while the real Saturn Girl (aided by Invisible Kid) sneaks up from behind and stuns them with a focused beam of her telepathy!

What Prof. X used to call a "mental bolt."

Thanks Bob Buethe.

We already saw Mordru team up with Eclipso to take on the JSA. Great concept and pretty good execution. This feels a little like a derivative.

More like inspiration than derivation.
