Shanna the She-Devil and Animal Man

Grant Morrison has worked on many comic properties and has made quite an impact with major ones like The X-Men, JLA, Batman and more.  I've enjoyed the big concepts that he has brought to those runs , but my favorite works of his are when he takes over lesser known or new characters and really runs with them.  I still count the first 26 issues of Animal Man to be some of the best comics that I have ever read and feel that Aztek: The Ultimate Man is an overlooked gem of a series.

Here is a combo that has unlimited series written all over it. Shanna can have "monthly rent" covered by taking out bad guys, special rescues, or a hundred other things that might be needed. Wonder if Buddy could find water for areas needing some?

Buddy's history with the "4th wall" has made for some very special stories at the level of Kingdom Come. Do I miss further installments of those.

Nice "swimsuit" on Shanna!

I like Tobor's idea of making this an ongoing thing. Shanna could easily keep Buddy busy with an "if you're going to live here, make yourself useful" sort of arrangement.

The thing is, who is Animal Man seeking asylum from, and why? Poison Ivy, perhaps, given her plant theme and status as an eco-terrorist? Or could it be an entire consortium of eco-terrorists? (Such a team, starting with Ivy and Cat-Man, could have a home in the STFU.) Or maybe we could find out slowly, as Buddy's powerful new enemy starts to send assassins such as Elektra or Deathstroke, eventually turning out to be Ra's al Ghul or Kingpin.

Hm... Ra's al Ghul pursuing Animal Man is a plotline that maybe DC could actually explore.

(And now, for some reason, I have a mental image of Ra's al Ghul hunting down Pokemon's Ash Ketchum.)

PS: It just occurred to me that it's been a while since we've seen the Inferior Five on here. How about teaming them up with the Great Lakes Avengers or something? Or maybe having them facing off against Dormammu?

In my opinion it easier to make an impact with a comic like Grant Morrison if you do not care what happens after you leave in terms of characters being usable. Some future writers would treat his work as imaginary or alternate universe.

Thinking if animal team-ups in an entirely different way, how about Underdog teamed with Pinky & The Brain to stop Simon Bar Sinister from stealing... Brain's idea to steal the Canadian election!

I'll always prefer the Carmine Infantino original above any and all other versions of Animal Man. In fact, the dark fantasy elements Morrison brought to bear on his version would've ruined Shanna the She-Devil before Issue #2 of her very first comic book!

That is, if he'd been Shanna's creator instead of Carole Seuling and George Tuska. Thank God that was never the case!

Didn't both of Shanna's leopards get killed by Malgato's robot pteranodons when he first had her brought to the Savage Land? So, I have to surmise that this leopard is either Tagak, Junior...or Baron Winters' feline friend Merlin.

The former would go nicely with how the Savage Land has several inter-dimensional portals that are almost like mini-Nexuses of Realities in their own right. While the latter could be in the Savage Land as part of some elaborate ruse to make Animal Man go there and do something on the Baron's behalf!

Or Tygra in the Haunted Tank....

@Bob Greenwade: "STFU" is no longer politically correct nomenclature. It's now officially The Rossverse! :-)

@Bob Greenwade: I think Ka-Zar might misinterpret their constantly working together.

Speaking of animal team-ups: how about Hank "the Beast" McCoy and Silver Age B'wana Beast?
