Supergirl Vs. Doctor Doom

This cover gives me good feelings because I culled the figure images from two comics that made a big impression on me.  The Doom image is from a splash page for Fantastic Four #126, "The Way It Began!"  I wore it out from listening and reading to it so often.  Supergirl is from the Superman Vs. Shazam! tabloid sized comic, one of the best slugfests ever and still my favorite story featuring those two powerhouses.

Tune in tomorrow  for STF #3000! - I have some extra features I hope you will like:

- Oversized cover featuring two iconic teams clashing for the first time
- And now, a word from our sponsor
- You get a ring!  And you get a ring!  And you get a ring!
- Public Service Announcement
- Oops, I did it again!
- Coming Saturdays this fall!

... all in the spirit of STF: The Lost Issues!  Don't Miss it!

Does this mean she has an ace up her sleeve in the form of Jason Todd?
Jason and the Argonauts (1963) would fit right in.

....more likely Jason Blood (rise the deamon Etrigon)....
a supremely styalistic cover which seamlessly matches its diverse pieces....
i agree about that wonderful TABLOID sized Supers/Shazams crossover.... one for the record books art-wise.....
and tomorrow's cover is "only a day away...."

As W.C. Fields might say: "I shall await with bated breath. Ah, yes!"

As Groucho Marx might say: "A man with breath that smells like bait? That's the most ridiculous thing I ever hoid!"

Doctor Doom even gave Superman a hard time in the second Superman/Spiderman team up comic so I can believe him making short work of Kara.

A man with baited breath should never be de-bated, just reeled in.

Since the Doc went after Supes first (in Spidy/Supes #2), this proves he's an equal opportunity idiot. Wanting to put Linda Lee's dna in his robots? Sounds like he's trying to make his own Amazo. Hmmm.., Doom and Ivo? A science Con!

Since he has kryptonite and the mind swapping gizmo he used on Reed, the question is: Would he put himself in Supergirl's shoes (literally) to advance his goals?

@Tobor & jack-el: Etrigan was my second thought, actually -- strangely, Dr. Woodrue was my first.

@Cary: As Curly Howard might say: "Soitainly!"

@Horsefeathers: I'd be more tempted to have Doom do the mind-swap with Power Girl.

@General: I've been waiting for mention of the Superman/Spider-Man team-ups to mention this: I've actually come up with multiple potential homages to that pairing:

1. Captain Carrot and Spider-Ham (the funny-animal version)
2. Bizarro and Man-Spider (the monstrous duplicate version)
3. Calvin Ellis and Miles Morales (the Black version)
4. Hyperion and The Bug (the "mutual homage" version)
5. Apex Lex and Superior Spider-Man (the "Acme Villains" version)

(Calvin & Miles is from Paganini; the others are my own.)

There probably are other possibilities as well, but I'm sort of pushing the limits of obscurity with The Bug.

How about Spider-Ham and Spider Pig (The Simpsons Movie).

The two blend really smoothly here. Doom makes a great antagonist for Kara.
I know they are both DC, but have you ever teamed the Super- and Power Girls? Against some heavy duty villains or heroes. How does Captain Marvel Danvers get along with Power Girl?

When the new Samurai Jack video game debut, a good cover could team up Samurai Jack and Fighting American; in the latest incarnation, Fighting American and his sidekick Speedboy were stranded in (their) future (2017); that plight does some paralleling with Samurai Jack's.

@Anon@1:05: As does Jonah Hex'.

How about Deadpool vs. AC's Scarlet Scorpion for STF #3002?

Followed a week later by a sequel to this cover, featuring Doc Doom vs. Steed & Peel.

Tentative title: "Return of the Argonots!"

So excited!

@Chuck: And you just can't hide it?

Are you about to lose control, but you think you like it?

@Bob Greenwade: Oh yeah.

One second later, she head-butts him at super-speed.

Guess where.

Here's an off the wall suggestion: a tribute to the two most famous creations of Martin Nodell. Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern, teamed up with... Poppin Fresh, the Pillsbury Doughboy! Willpower meets flour power!

Only hours to go until issue 3000...so exciting...thanks, Ross

I wonder which the iconic teams are..maybe the Zoo Crew and Yogi’s Laffalympics, or is that not iconic enough? JSA meets the Defenders?

Anonymous said...

@my namesake: I'm hoping it's the Fantastic Four vs. FemForce.

That way, Ross could entitle it... "Four F's!"

@Anon 815PM: What if Femforce members, esp. those with the biggest boobs, came out as transwomen? What would be the reception, at least by those who are NOT turned on by such assets?; in the Ranma 1/2 anime, Japanese boys probably liked(?) Nakajima's depiction of the titular character's female form.

Anon: The beach flirt who unwittingly invited Ranma-chan to his(?) yacht would agree.

@both my namesakes: we talkin' some kind of Futanari Force, here?

Since Superman worked so well with Spider-Man, could Supergirl meet Spider-Ham?

Carycomic said...

Why not? Ross could even team them up against Velvet O'Mara as the Scarlet Spinner!*

*She briefly stole the Insect Queen ring from Lois and Lana way back in the Early Silver Age.
