New Teen Titans and Femforce

I used to get a kick out of Changeling's personality in the pages of New Teen Titans.  He was written like a true teenager - impetuous, full of energy, cracking corny jokes and girl-crazy.  I especially liked his relationship with Cyborg, something that has sadly been lost since Victor Stone was elevated to JLA status.

Don't know their names, but the one on the far left could team with the original Capt Atom while the one in the cloak could interact with Raven. I think their version of wolverine beat up a sidekick called Kitten in order to impress Kitten's boyfriend. She would be a real x-factor.

The one in the cloak is Nightveil. IIRC she was originally supposed to be Phantom Lady, until DC explained that what they'd let the author get away with in amateur magazines was off-limits once he'd turned pro, and then he put the renamed character through occult training of some kind as well. Also IIRC, she filled Nightshade's role in a team called 'The New Sentinels' which was AC's replacement for 'The Sentinels of Justice' (a planned-for-Charlton group -- Nightshade, Captain Atom, Blue Beetle, and the Question -- whose only story was eventually published by AC)... Nightveil, Captain Paragon, Scarlet Scorpion, and ????
And, IIRC yet again, "the one on the right" (named 'Starshine'?) was indeed teamed with Captain Paragon.

I saw the top of this picture, and just knew that when I scrolled down I'd see that it was Changeling speaking...

p.s. I'm talking about the one on their right: white-blonde hair, orange-&-yellow costume.

Personally, even though breasts have a nutritional purpose (feeding babies), I prefer "FLAT" chests.

At Christmastime, I suggest a team-up of bad Santas, with American Dad's Santa Claus, the B. A. Baracus-like Santa from the commercial shown in the Simpsons episode "Marge Be Not Proud", and Robot Santa (Futurama).

@ Simreeve: The platinum blonde in the top left corner is Stardust, who was initially the fourth member of the Sentinels of Justice. A defector from the Rurians (a war-like race of parthenogenic alien women).

The blonde in the red-white-and blue mini-dress is Ms. Victory (imagine Supergirl taking over for Capt. America) while her similarly-powered daughter (in the nearly-matching unitard) is called "Rad."

The raven-haired Amazon in the camouflage-colored bra is Tara Fremont. A salute to Sheena and all other jungle gals of the Golden Age. But, with a little biochemically-induced gigantism for added power.

The brunette in the lower left corner, sort of dressed like the Scarlet Witch, is She-Cat. A salute to the Golden Age Black Cat from Harvey Comics. While the platinum blonde to the far left is Synesthesia, an ex-go-go dancer (from the 1960's) who was kind of experimented on (a la Cloak & Dagger of the 1980's) and thereby wound up with the ability to psychokinetically warp reality in her immediate vicinity (a la Prometheus McTaggart of the late 1970's).

The one struggling to be seen from the back row is Colt the Weapons Mistress. Sort of a female Punisher who dresses like a cross between the Lone Ranger and one of the Three Musketeers. While the sequoia-sized legs in the top right corner belong to Garganta (imagine Giganta...with Bruce Banner's IQ).

@ Ross: if you ever bring them back for another cover, could you have them team up with Spidey? Maybe with She-Cat quipping how he's just hit the jackpot? In any case, though; thanks for this great Xmas present! :-)

Speaking of Cyborg, I saw the new Doom Patrol trailer yesterday, and their Cyborg is Yet Another variation of Vic. Not at all what I was expecting. And DP is looking like a show I might like if I was stoned, but I don't do that anymore.

Cyborg = Titan ≠ Leaguer

I hope Joan Wayne and her daughter have reconciled by now and gone through the grieving process together over the death of Joan's Grandson, and I hope Black Commando is still with RAD II as a couple. I hope there was a resolution with Sekhmet & She Cat (or is it She-Cat) as well.I'm pretty certain Paragon and Joan are still "an item". Fem Force became to pricey to keep up with, and finding affordable trades or even checking them out @ the public library is out of the question.

@Carycomic: nice litany. Except that one part toward the end should read "Proteus" McTaggart. After the ancient Greek sea god who would grant predictions of the future if one could hold on to him through all kinds of shapeshifting.

P.S. (@ det_Tobor): Simreeve is right. Though dressed somewhat like Raven, Nightveil is more like Golden Age Phantom Lady-meets-Dr. Strange.

And in stories set before the occult training she used a different code-name, right? 'Blue Bulleteer', was it?

H'mm. I've got a 1960s Captain Atom story in which he met some Venusian females who looked a bit similar, but there wasn't much detail about them in that issue: I wonder whether AC based its 'Rurians' on them?

"R.U.R." Karel Kapek.

Carycomic said...

@Simreeve: you are 100% correct, sir.

@Brother Barnes: yes, that's where the inspiration evidently came from. But, unlike those Capt. Atom foes (the "Vixens of Venus" or whatever they called themselves), the Rurians of AC were drawn with Caucasian complexions, Vulcanoid ears, and emotional frigidity worthy of Marvel's Deathbird!

P.S.---slight apology. Synesthesia is the platinum blonde--in the all red mini-dress--at the far lower right.

YES!!! Pinky!

@Brother Barnes: As in, the Brain's loyal-but-idiotic sidekick? Is he helping the former mind-control Beast Boy? Maybe through some kind of "Fantastic Voyaging" submarine?.

Not idiocy, but Insanity. Know your lyrics.

Cary Comic Do you know the latest on Joan Wayne (AKA: Miss Victory, MS Victory, Rad (the first)) & Her Daughter Jennifer Wayne-Burke (AKA MS Victory II & Rad II)?

Carycomic said...

Sadly, no. :-(

Not since Joan married Capt. Paragon and Rad was (briefly) part of Fear Force. So, I'd guesstimate I've been out of touch with AC Comics since circa 1995.

Brother Kellymatthew said...

Cary Comic thanks. IDK about Rad's brief stint with Fear Force. I can't even recall Fear Force.

Made up of Femforce's female foes. Including Capt. Paragon's misandryistic counterpart from a matriarchial dictatorship on a parallel-Earth...and No-nose Nanette. A gang moll whose trap-jawed ex-boyfriend had bitten it off in a fit of temper!
