Darth Vader Vs. Darkseid

I was the perfect age when Star Wars was first released - 8 years old.  I was of course blown away by the movie.  May father picked up the Treasury Edition comic adaptation of the movie by Marvel for us kids shortly afterwards and I devoured it.  This was well before the advent of VCR's and movies took about 4 years to go from the theaters to TV, so these big comics were the one way to keep the stories and characters fresh in my mind while waiting for the sequels, and I remember them fondly.

These two first faced off in a back-up tale in STF #2184...

A few people have been waiting for this one.

DV: Come over to the Dark Side, no, wait, that's confusing...

I once heard that Jack Kirby actually tried to get a New Gods animated series going when Star Wars was new... but they said it was too similar.

Not sure I believe that, given how much "borrowing" there is in that world, but an interesting tale.

I really hope this is just one covers of two (or more), such great potential.

Great job.

They went with Thundarr The Barbarian (a horrid rip off of Star Wars) but not the New Gods which seems to be where most of SW was cribbed from? Someone was asleep at the wheel.

And the winner is...Thanos' girlfriend!

Is this a sequel to STF #2184?

First Anonymous, it would be even MORE confusing if Darth Vader said, "Come over to the Dark Side, Darkseid!"

Then Darkseid said, "How long have you had that stuttering problem, Vader?"

(I'm so sorry.)

@TJW: actually, those were pretty good! :-)

A variant on TJW's dialogue:

"Join the Dark Side, Darkseid!"

"Be honest, now. You've always wanted to say that, haven't you?"

(I'm among those who have been hankering for this match-up, and I hope it's the beginning of a recurring rivalry on this blog.)

The fight itself is Darkseid, hands down.

But how does the fight end?

Does Vader run from Darkseid?
Does Vader die?
Does Darkseid simply toss Vader aside as inconsequential?
Or does Vader join Team Apokolips?

I pity Darth Vader in this.

I don't recall where I got this picture, but it's another crossover involving Darkseid and his minions.

My favorite part is the title of "next issue's story".

I have to agree with with Brother Barnes on this one. Even a Sith Lord's lightsaber can't repel omega beams!

As to future confrontations? How about Catwoman vs. T.H.E. Cat (as once played by the late, great Robert Loggia)?

Darth Vader VS Mr Burns, hard to find somebody DV could go toe to toe with, they are either to weak or they would make short work of him. Middle middle weight evil. The Master (BBC) would manipulate him then Dollgun him. Gul Dukat would knock him out and interrogate him until either leaving him to rot, or smoking him. So Mr Burns is a close as I could get. Maybe Ming the Merciless (John Middleton 1930's movie serials) would make a lengthy battle? Butch Cavendish from the Lone Ranger? No he wouldn't give DV the time to "flick his Bick". I am an honest signal.

@Brother Barnes (re: Amalgam Comic characters). I hate to say it.
But, I think you have a better chance of seeing a non-Connery 007 on one of Ross' covers.

Brother Kellymatthew said...

Anonymous that's ok, it's all just a bit 'o fun "anywho".

Vader has only one Master and a certain TG Time Lord ain't it! Instead, both of the latter's hearts would be shish-kabobbed by the former's lightsaber long before any telepathic subjugation.

But, I agree with you about Gul Dukat being able to go toe-to-toe with the erstwhile Annakin. Providing it was the pah-wraithed version!
