The X-Men and Captain Atom

Every few years Captain Atom gets a re-design, but most haven't really worked for me.  My favorite look for him is the one used above.  This was his appearance for his self-titled series once he was integrated into the DC Universe with the rest of the Charlton characters.  It's a nice, simple design - just different enough from The Silver Surfer to give him a unique look.

As much as I liked reading that Wildstorm crossover, I was very confused by it. After his disappearance in the "Public Enemies" storyline from Superman/Batman, apparently Captain Atom ran amok in the Wildstorm universe wreaking havoc. Kinda like what supposed to be going on with a certain Doctor in the latest iteration of the DCU...

According to a Rolling Stone readers poll, Apocalypse was the 4th worst movie of the Summer this year...

@AirDave: It was a heck of a lot better than the all-girl remake of GHOST BUSTERS.

@ Ross: clever title! A lot less cliche' than calling them "Children Of The Atom."

This is a great cover, Ross--great idea and great execution. However, when I comes to Captain Atom costumes, I prefer the original Charlton yellow and red version. Marvel Comics must have liked that version too since it obviously influenced their design for their version of Captain Marvel's red and blue costume....

@Sonofjack@ you mean, Mar-Vell's second Silver Age look? Yeah, that was pretty cool. For all I know, it even influenced the style of Chris Claremont's Manhunter!*

*The "Paul Kirk; arch-enemy of the Council" version.

Awesome cover.

Also, I never really understood why DC bothered to change the Captain's first name, even if they did change his backstory.

@ my namesake: Sorry, dude. That version was done by Goodwin and Simonson!

What's a "Preofessor" ?

Obviously, the word that Ross correctly re-spelled five seconds after you first pointed out the misspelling. ;-)

Any chance of a Spidey/Capt. Atom team-up, someday?*

*Yes, I did check and, no, you haven't done one, yet. ;-)

The Paul Kirk "Manhunter" character was around in his red and blue costume in the 1940's. The stories in the'70's were about his clone that the Council created. (If my memory serves me right...)
