Wonder Woman and Conan

The Wonder Woman film has begun shooting and set photos reveal that it will indeed be at least a partial period piece.  On bit of casting that interested me was Lucy Davis, who played Dawn, the female lead on the original version of The Office from the BBC.  Her role has not been announced, but I'm thinking that she will make a great Etta Candy.  We will see if that will come to pass.

I'm curious about what they're going to do with WW. I'm cautious because I'm not too keen on the goddess of war version of the character. Comics are full of savage warrior types. The peace-loving WW who rejected war, bigotry, etc as part of "man's world" was more interesting, IMO.

I'd love to see a team-up between WW, Kevin Sorbo's Hercules (from HTLJ) and Stargate: SG-1. Premise? Diana is actually Herc's daughter by Hippolyta, while Herc's old man...is Goa'uld System Lord Zeus!

I can't help imagining Melissa McCarthy as Etta Candy. I'm not saying I WANT that, just that it seems like something that would happen.

Didn't Wonder Woman cross over with Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser?

Yes, Wonder Woman teamed-up with Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser, but that was when she was in her de-powered, Emma Peel phase. More recently Wonder Woman crossed over with DC sword and sorcery characters Claw, Stalker and Beowulf.

This is a great cover, by the way....

Actually, the last I heard, Claw is published by Dynamite Entertainment (his author-owner's current employer).

Speaking of Wonder Woman's de-powered period, I recall that this came about because the Amazons emigrated from the World of Men, just as this cover suggests they're doing. That gives this cover a touch of unexpected irony.

That's a phase of Wonder Woman (it just now occurred to me) that might be interesting to see teamed up with Nick Fury.

And of course there has now been a 6-issue series in which Wonder Woman wound up in Conan's Hyboria. Pretty good story, too. In my head, this blog inspired the crossover.
