Hawk & Dove and Cloak & Dagger

I think that these two pairs of street level crime fighters would be fun to toss in a story together.  Dove and Dagger seem to spend as much time battling alongside their partners as they do trying to keep them in check, and that would make for an interesting dynamic.  It would also be a cool looking issue - the costume designs on these teams are both very visually appealing, it's no wonder to me that they have remained relatively the same since the characters were introduced (even though one of the genders may have changed).

So, the rock star version of Hawk & Dove never caught on, huh? Surprise, surprise. I like the concept of Hawk & Dove, like Power Man & Iron Fist; but, I think some of the parts of the origin and the concept need a little tweaking. I like the idea that there are some elements of Dr. Fate and Deadman with the Lords of Order and Chaos, but there seems to be a Wonder Twins element where they just suit up at random. Or, is that just me?

How does a totally '60's peace/love and war idea like Hawk & Dove work today?

I haven't followed Cloak and Dagger, outside of a guest appearance in Runaways.

I loved the Klaus Jansen mini-series and later full series of Hawk & Dove back in the late 80s, and was disappointed when it was cancelled. By the early '90s, that was one of the last comics I was regularly purchasing at a time when the general quality of comics was crumbling fast.

Nice choice Ross, now can you pair Cloak & Dagger with Jade & Obsidian? I always thought those pairs were well matched psychically and thematically.

Weren't H&D both women at one point? I seem to recall that better than them being one of each.

Oh, and I agree with Isaac's suggestion. A C&D/J&O pairing would seem natural, especially with the visual similarities between Cloak and Obsidian.

I'd also love to see a GL/GA pairing with Power Man and Iron Fist.

As it turns out I was trying to figure out a Cloak/Obsidian match up just this week, but couldn't get images that worked together to my satisfaction. It's a cool pairing, so hopefully I will get to it someday.

I liked Steve Ditko's original Hawk and Dove (#2 is one of my all-time favorite comic book stories, despite the off-putting rectangular word balloons), but none of the later versions appealed to me. As a 21st century adult, the stories and characters have a different meaning to me than they did when I was a kid in the '60s. I used to think of the Dove as "right" and Hawk as "wrong," but later realized that both of them were meant to be the extreme ends of a wide spectrum, where "right" is somewhere in the middle. I still enjoy rereading those issues every so often.

Completed and patiently waiting its turn....

Another fitting pairing, with me thinking of the New Amalgam Comics project on deviantart.com. Red-Rum 18 merged these four and came up with Shadowhawk (Hank Hall and Cloak) and Bladedove (Dawn Granger and Dagger).
