Rose & The Thorn and Moon Knight

I always loved the concept of DC's Rose and The Thorn, and I think it is too bad that she never reached a wider audience.  I remember reading of her adventures in Lois Lane and I would always check out her appearances, which were unfortunately very few and far between - she was relegated to a few guest appearances and team-ups over the years.  The last I saw of the character was a mini-series by Gail Simone and an appearance in Birds of Prey a few years back.  DC seems to be looking for more strong female characters, so I hope they give her another chance in the New 52.

Hiya Ross, love the blog!

They already did reboot Rose & Thorn in a National Comics 1-shot for the New 52. She was reintroduced as a high school "good girl" that had a dangerous and trashy dark side. I thought it was pretty awful and pandering, just like some other Nu52 stuff. (coughStarfirecough)

Keep up the great work!

Thanks! I missed that National Comics news... too bad they went the pandering route though.

It's fair to say the 'bad girl' side could be considered pandering, but the good girl side was repulsed by it. At stories end, a balance was perceived between the two as being necessary. It was hardly the failure that Starfire has been.

Oh Wow, Rose&theThorn will always near to my heart since she was the guest in my very first issue of Brave and The Bold, when she and Batman went after those retired Nazis in South America. I was blown away by Jim Aparo's art, and Mike W. Barr's writing. I truly miss that era, and to me, Mike Barr and Jim Aparo were the best Brave and the Bold creative team.

The National Comics version wasn't really a part of the "New 52", I don't think. Those one-shots were really comic book versions of tv pilots, designed to show how some underused DC characters might be translated to television series. No supervillains or costumes, etc.

Actually, Anonymous, Flash's rogues gallery versus the original Lee/Kirby X-Men would be pretty evenly matched.

Original X-Men vs. Flash's rogues? Do it! That's worth influencing the majors into another inter-company cross-over right there! Shame about Rose & the Thorn, as I read those LL issues myself (now don't judge...)and always found her to be one of those obsessive/compulsive characters like Batman and the original Black Lightning (like Tony Isabella said, DC just don't get it). Maybe she'll get better use in the n52, but judging from what fans are saying here, I doubt it. Schmoo 52 is more like it.

@pblfsda: Rogue (of the X-men) vs. Rouge (of the Brain's Brotherhood of Evil) would be more appropriate.

Those two Thorn/Moon Knight covers look really cool side by side. Kind of mirror images. I wonder what would happen if they had a child together.
